Setup Auto Saves - V Rising Wiki

V Rising: Auto Save Configuration

V Rising servers save the game state automatically. However, the default settings might be too infrequent for a busy server, or they might not keep enough historical copies for you to roll back a "griefing" incident.

1. The Interval

AutoSaveInterval controls how often the server pauses to write data to the disk to the /Saves/ folder.

2. The Count

AutoSaveCount determines how many backup files are kept before the oldest one is deleted. Keep this high!

3. The Lag

Saving causes a momentary "lag spike" or freeze on lower-end servers. Finding the balance between safety and performance is key.

Recommended Settings

Option A: High Traffic (Active PvP)

If you have many players raiding, you want frequent saves to prevent progress loss from a crash.

  • **Interval:** 600 (10 Minutes)
  • **Count:** 50 (Keeps last 8 hours of gameplay)

Option B: Low Traffic (PvE/Co-op)

For chill building servers where crashes are rare.

  • **Interval:** 1800 (30 Minutes) - Reduces stutter.
  • **Count:** 20

How to Edit Save Settings

  1. Stop the Server.
  2. Go to **File Manager** -> `ServerHostSettings.json`.
  3. Locate the lines:
    "AutoSaveCount": 50,
    "AutoSaveInterval": 600,
  4. **Note:** The interval value is in **SECONDS**.
    • 120 = 2 Minutes
    • 600 = 10 Minutes
    • 3600 = 1 Hour
  5. Save and Restart.

Manual Saves

As an admin, you can force a save at any time (e.g., before shutting down or updating) by opening the console (~) and typing:

save

Warning: Never set the interval lower than 60 seconds. This will cause constant disk writing and severe server lag.

Safe blood. Host your V Rising server with Supercraft and enjoy automated off-site backups in addition to these local auto-saves.
