Upload Save File - Factorio Wiki

Factorio: Uploading Your World

Moving a **Factorio** factory from your local PC to a dedicated server allows it to run 24/7, making resources while you sleep. However, unlike some games, Factorio requires you to specifically tell the server which save file to load on startup.

1. Local Save Location

On Windows, your local saves are hidden in: %appdata%\Factorio\saves\.

2. Server Save Location

On the server, saves go into the /saves/ directory. The file must end in .zip.

3. Config is Key

Just uploading the file isn't enough. You must update your **Startup Arguments** or **Config** to point to the new filename.

Step-by-Step Migration Guide

  1. Locate your Local Save: Press Win + R and type %appdata%\Factorio\saves. Find your desired world (e.g., MyMegaBase.zip).
  2. Upload to Server:
    • Open the Supercraft **File Manager**.
    • Go to the /saves/ folder.
    • Drag and drop your MyMegaBase.zip here.
    • Optional: It is good practice to rename it to something simple like world.zip.
  3. Configure the Server to Load It:
    • Go to the **Startup** or **Settings** tab in your panel.
    • Find the "Save Name" or "Map" field.
    • Enter the exact name of your file (without .zip in some panels, but usually with it). Example: world.zip.
  4. Restart the Server.

Managing Autosaves

The server will periodically generate autosaves (usually 3 slots).

  • The server writes to _autosave1.zip, _autosave2.zip, etc.
  • When you restart only the server, it usually prioritizes the **Latest Modified** file if configured correctly (using the --start-server-load-latest argument).
  • If you want to "Roll Back" to an autosave, rename _autosave1.zip to world.zip (or whatever your main save name is) and restart.

Warning: Do NOT delete all existing saves in the folder unless you are sure you have backups. Unlike local play, there is no "Recycle Bin" on a Linux server.

Expand the factory. Host your Factorio server with Supercraft and enjoy automated cloud backups to ensure your 1,000 SPM base is never lost.
