Adjusting Resource Respawn Rates and Radius in Ark

Adjusting Resource Respawn Rates and Radius in Ark

In crowded PvE servers or aggressive PvP maps, fighting over metal, crystal, and obsidian is brutal. Optimize your map so resources return quickly and cannot be permanently blocked by structural foundation spam.

The Problem with Foundations

Natively, when a player places a foundation or a pillar, natural resources like metal rocks, trees, and berry bushes within a large radius are deleted and prevented from respawning. Unchecked, careless base building can eradicate a map's richest resource mountains.

Configuring Game.ini Definitions

These crucial adjustments are placed under the [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] header in your Game.ini file.

ResourcesRespawnPeriodMultiplier=0.5
ResourceNoBuildRadiusPlayersMultiplier=1.0
ResourceNoBuildRadiusStructuresMultiplier=0.3

Explanation of Settings

  • ResourcesRespawnPeriodMultiplier: Inversely controls how long it takes for a harvested rock or tree to come back. Setting this to 0.5 cuts the respawn time in half. Setting it to 0.1 means immediate regrowth.
  • ResourceNoBuildRadiusStructuresMultiplier: Crucial for metal mountains. Lowering this restricts the radius around a foundation that prevents respawning. Setting it to 0.3 shrinks the circle significantly, allowing nodes just slightly outside a player's base walls to grow back safely.
Warning: Be careful setting ResourceNoBuildRadiusStructuresMultiplier to values close to 0.0. It can result in trees respawning inside players' closed bases, rendering their rooms unusable or trapping their dinosaurs.
