Enshrouded: Joining & Trouble-shooting Dedicated Servers
Connecting to an **Enshrouded** dedicated server is usually a simple affair, but due to how the global server lobby fetches data, your world may not always appear in the list immediately. This guide explains the three main methods to join a server and how to fix the most common connection "timeouts."
1. The In-Game Lobby
The standard way to join. Use the "Private Search" tool to find your server by its name. Ensure you have the "Password Protected" filter enabled!
2. Steam Favorites
The most reliable method. By adding your IP directly to Steam, you can bypass the often-buggy in-game lobby and join your server with 100% reliability.
3. Version Tracking
Enshrouded is in Early Access and updates frequently. Your server and game client must always match versions to allow for a successful handshake.
Method 1: The In-Game Browser Search
This is the best method for public community servers:
- Click Play -> Join a Private Game.
- In the search box at the top right, type your server's exact name.
- Wait 10-15 seconds for the list to refresh. If popular, yours may be buried below identically named servers.
- Select your server and enter the password when prompted.
Method 2: Joining via Steam Favorites (Developer Recommended)
If Method 1 fails after multiple attempts, use the Steam Server Manager:
- In Steam, go to View -> Game Servers.
- Click the Favorites tab and the Plus (+) icon.
- Enter your server's **IP Address** and **Port** (e.g.,
123.456.78.90:15637). - Once saved, the server will now appear under the "Favorites" filter inside the Enshrouded join menu.
Troubleshooting Connection Errors

| Connection Timeout | The server is likely still launching. Voxel worlds can take 2-3 minutes to load from the disk into RAM. Wait for the "Server Started" line in the console. |
| Authentication Failed | You are likely using a Steam beta branch. Switch back to the "None" branch in Steam Properties -> Betas to match the server. |
| Server Not Appearing | Enshrouded's world lobby has a limit on the number of servers it displays. Use Method 2 to force a direct connection. |
Note: Enshrouded servers use two ports. One for the **Game** (usually 15636) and one for **Querying** (usually 15637). If you are adding a favorite to Steam, always use the Query Port.
