Troubleshooting Configuration

Settings not applying?

Verify syntax in config files. Ensure server is fully stopped before editing. Some changes require complete restart.

Performance issues after config change?

Check if new settings exceed hardware capabilities. Reduce player count or gaslamp density if needed.

Players can't connect?

Ensure ports are forwarded correctly. Check if server version matches client version. Verify firewall isn't blocking connections.

Server crashes on startup?

Check for syntax errors in configuration files. Verify all required values are present. Check server logs for specific error messages.

Gaslamp not working?

Check GaslampEnabled setting. Verify fuel system is configured correctly. Ensure player is in range of active gaslamp.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best player count per realm?

4 players is optimal for Nightingale's realms. Higher counts may affect performance and resource balance.

Can I enable PvP in Nightingale?

Yes, each realm can be configured independently. However, PvP may unbalance the survival-focused gameplay.

Do I need to restart server for every change?

No, basic gameplay settings apply instantly. Major changes (world generation, realm creation) require restart.

How do gaslamps work?

Players find gaslamps in the world and fuel them. Gaslamps provide dynamic lighting that players can carry and place.

What happens if I die?

Drop items at death location. Respawn at last checkpoint or start of realm. Gaslamp is lost unless recovered.

Can I travel between realms?

Yes, if enabled in server configuration. Travel triggers cooldown and shares your progress between realms.
