Nightingale Realm Persistence & Character Binding Guide

Nightingale Realm Persistence & Character Binding Guide

With the transition to dedicated servers in July 2025, managing realm persistence and character-to-realm binding has become critical for server administrators and players alike. Understanding how your character "claims" an Abeyance Realm on a private server is essential to preventing progress loss.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Key Concepts

  • Abeyance Realm: Your home realm where your Respite point is set.
  • Character Binding: The process of linking your unique character ID to a specific server's world data.
  • Dedicated Pivot: The architectural change that moved world data from Inflexion's cloud to individual dedicated servers.
  • Persistent Status: Servers now maintain world state 24/7, independent of the host's online status.

How Character Binding Works

Unlike the previous "always-online" model, dedicated servers handle character data locally (or via the linked Steam/Epic account ID). When you first join a dedicated server, you must establish a "Respite" point to bind your character to that server's instance of a realm.

๐Ÿ“ฅ First-Time Joining

When you join a new dedicated server, you are essentially a visitor. To make it your "home," you must travel to an Abeyance Realm using the appropriate Realm Cards and place an **Estate Cairn**.

๐Ÿ”— Setting Respite

Interacting with your Estate Cairn sets your **Respite Point**. This binds your character's progression and safe-zone to this specific dedicated server instance.

Managing Realm Persistence

On a dedicated server, the "Abeyance" realm is persistent. However, other realms (generated via portals) may "hibernate" or "reset" depending on server configuration to save resources.

Persistence Settings in ServerConfig.ini

[RealmPersistence]
# Keep Abeyance realms loaded at all times
AlwaysLoadAbeyance=true

# How long to keep empty non-Abeyance realms active (in seconds)
PortalRealmTimeout=3600

# Maximum number of concurrent active realms
MaxActiveRealms=5

# Automatically backup world state every X minutes
AutoSaveInterval=15

The "Dedicated Pivot" Challenges

Players migrating from the old official servers to private dedicated servers often encounter these issues:

  • Missing Respite: If a server is wiped or the Unique ID changes, your character may lose its binding to the world.
  • Multi-Server Characters: Your character's inventory usually travels with you, but your "Home" is server-specific.
  • Realm ID Mismatch: If the server's WorldSeed is changed, existing Estate Cairns may become "orphaned," requiring players to re-claim their spot.

Best Practices for Server Admins

  1. Static IP/ID: Ensure your server uses a static ID or persistent data volume so that character bindings aren't broken by a reboot.
  2. Regular Backups: The /Data/Worlds/ folder is the heart of your server. Back it up daily.
  3. Communication: If you plan to reset non-Abeyance realms, give players 24 hours' notice to retrieve any temporary structures.

Troubleshooting Persistence Issues

My Estate Cairn is gone after a server restart!

This usually happens if the server failed to save before shutting down, or if the AlwaysLoadAbeyance setting is false and the world file was corrupted. Check your AutoSaveInterval settings.

I can't set my Respite on a friend's server.

Ensure the server allows "Visitor Respite" which can be toggled in the configuration. Some servers restrict Abeyance claiming to prevents griefing or resource exhaustion.

Wait, does my gear stay with me?

Yes, character gear and inventory are generally tied to your player profile, while structures and the world state are tied to the dedicated server files.
