Project Zomboid: 8 Best Base Locations (2025 Edition)
In Project Zomboid, your base is more than just a place to sleep—it's your fortress, your storage, and your sanctuary against the dead. Choosing the right spot depends on your group size, survival style, and difficulty settings. Here are the top 8 locations in the current build.
Note: All ratings are based on a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the best (e.g., 10 Isolation means very few zombies).

1. Rosewood Fire Department
The "Gold Standard" of bases. It features a high perimeter fence on three sides, a massive garage for vehicle maintenance, and plenty of residential space upstairs.
Modification Tip: Build a wall across the front driveway to create a 100% enclosed courtyard.
2. Muldraugh Large Warehouse (North)
A dream for players who love organizing. It comes packed with industrial crates and enough roof space to sustain a massive farm.
Modification Tip: Sledgehammer the stairs and use sheet ropes to make the second floor an unreachable safe zone.
3. Riverside Country Club
Located far to the west of Riverside, this massive complex offers a swimming pool (unlimited tainted water), tennis courts for farming, and a gym.
Modification Tip: You will need a vehicle. Don't attempt to live here if you are on foot; it's too far from the main city loot.
4. The Three Mansions (West Point)
Located west of West Point, these three houses are surrounded by high, indestructible metal fences and the Ohio River.
Modification Tip: Block the small gaps in the fences with wall frames or cars to secure three high-tier houses at once.
Essential Base Modifications
No matter where you choose to live, you must adapt the environment to survive the long term:
- Rain Collectors: Place these on the roof above a sink. Use a pipe wrench to "Plumb" the sink for filtered water.
- Double Gates: Build a "holding pen" for your vehicles. If a zombie follows you home, you can lock them in the first gate area without exposing your inner base.
- The Sledgehammer Hack: Many veterans destroy the stairs to the second floor. Zombies cannot climb sheet ropes, making your sleeping quarters 100% safe.
