How to Promote Your Server
You finally pulled the trigger and rented your own dedicated Project Zomboid server from Supercraft... but it's empty. Don't worry, building a community takes time. The biggest roleplay and PvE servers started exactly where you are. Fortunately, it's easier than ever to promote your server online. Here are the best strategies to get started and populate your community.
1. Make a Great First Impression
When players first join your server from the browser, they want a good experience and a reason to stick around. To make the early game more forgiving for newcomers, consider slightly lowering the zombie density or starting difficulty. This helps players establish a safehouse quickly. The more meaningful progress players make in their first few hours, the more likely they are to return the next day to defend it.
2. Post in the Right Places
Community hubs are the best place to find players actively looking for a new home. You can advertise your new community in Supercraft's promotion channel, as well as the dedicated server-promotion channel in the Official Project Zomboid Discord. Be sure to include eye-catching pictures, custom artwork, and a clear, well-formatted description of your server.
3. Write a Clear Description
Transparency is key. In your server description, clearly explain your active settings, wipe schedule, difficulty level, and server type (e.g., Hardcore Survival, Casual PvE, or Heavy Roleplay). Make sure to highlight any large-scale mods or expansive custom maps (like Raven Creek or Bedford Falls), as unique map additions frequently draw in veteran players looking for fresh areas to explore.
4. Host Events and Giveaways
If you don't already have one, create a dedicated Discord server for your community. Once established, host regular events or weekly prize draws. Prizes could include special loot, vehicles, or rare weapons that give players a slight advantage. Knowing they can win unique weekly rewards keeps players engaged and logging back in to defend their newly acquired gear.
