Project Zomboid: Resetting the Mini Map
A common issue after a **Server Wipe** is that players still see their old Mini Map exploration data (fog of war revealed, symbols marked). This happens because **Mini Map data is stored Client-Side**, not on the server.
1. The Problem
You wiped the server, but your players log in and can still see the entire map they explored last wipe. This ruins the "fresh start" feeling.
2. The Solution
Because this file is on their computer, every player must do this individually. The server admin cannot force a mini-map reset remotely.
3. The File
We need to delete the specific folder related to your server's IP in the user's Zomboid directory.
Step-by-Step Instructions (For Players)
Share this guide with your community:
- Close the game completely.
- Press
Windows Key + Ron your keyboard. - Copy and paste this line:
%USERPROFILE%\Zomboid\Saves\Multiplayerand press Enter. - You will see a list of folders named like
192.168.1.50_16261_user(IP_Port_Username). - Delete the folder that corresponds to the server you want to reset.
- Relaunch the game. Your map will be black/unexplored again.
Can I Reset Just the Map, Not the Character?
Yes. If you want to keep your character settings but just reset the map knowledge:
- Open the folder mentioned above.
- Find
map_minimap.bin(or similarmap_*.binfiles). - Delete only those files.
- Keep
players.dbor other database files if you are trying to preserve specific local data (though usually, it's safer to delete the whole folder for a true wipe).
Admin Tip: When you announce a "Server Wipe," always include a link to this guide in your Discord. Players will inevitably complain that "the wipe didn't work" because they still see their map.
