Spawning Items & Vehicles

Project Zomboid: Item & Vehicle Spawning Masterclass

As an admin, spawning items and vehicles is essential for replacing gear lost to bugs, organizing community events, or clearing blockages in the world. Project Zomboid provides two primary ways to manifest objects into existence: the **Item List Viewer** and the **Brush Tool**.

1. Item List Viewer

A searchable database of every item in the game (including those from mods). This is the best way to get specific gear like Sledgehammers or MREs directly into your inventory.

2. Vehicle Spawn Tool

Allows you to choose from every vehicle in the world and place it at a specific coordinate. Can be used to spawn pristine, fueled cars or wrecked aesthetic set-pieces.

3. The Brush Tool

An advanced "Painter" that allows you to spawn multiple objects (furniture, walls, or even hordes) by clicking and dragging on the game world.

How to Spawn Items (Inventory)

  1. Log in as an Admin and open the Red Admin Panel.
  2. Select Items List Viewer.
  3. Use the search bar at the top to find your item (e.g., "Axe").
  4. Double-click the item to add one to your inventory.
  5. Bulk Spawning: Select an item and click "Add 10" or "Add 50" at the bottom of the window.

How to Spawn Vehicles (World)

  1. Right-click anywhere on the ground to open the world menu.
  2. Navigate to Tools > Spawn Vehicle.
  3. Pick a vehicle from the list (e.g., "Step Van").
  4. Toggle the With Key and Full Gas options if you want the car to be ready to drive.
  5. Click on the ground to place the vehicle. Be careful not to spawn it on top of another car!

Managing the "Brush Tool" for World Editing

The Brush Tool is found in the Admin Panel. It allows you to:

  • Repair Structures: "Paint" missing walls or floors into existence.
  • Destroy Objects: Instantly remove unbreakable objects like burnt-out car wrecks or glitched furniture.
  • Create Hordes: Use the "Zombie" brush to spawn clusters of undead for server events.

Warning: Spawning items while a player is in the "Trade" window or "Looting" a container can sometimes cause a desync. Always spawn items into your own inventory first, then drop them on the ground for players.
