Terraria 1.4.5: Bigger & Boulder Update

Released on January 27, 2026, Terraria 1.4.5, affectionately dubbed "Bigger & Boulder," is the most significant update to the game in years. It brings revolutionary quality-of-life changes, hundreds of new items, and legendary crossovers with Dead Cells and Palworld.

🪨 The Skyblock Revolution

For the first time, Terraria natively supports the Skyblock game mode through a dedicated world seed. No more external mods required—start on a tiny island and build your way to Moon Lord using clever mechanics and renewable resources.

Major Features & Mechanics

1. Direct Chest Crafting

The days of manually pulling ingredients from chests are over. You can now craft items directly using materials from chests within a 15-block radius of your character, provided they are open or tagged with a new "Crafting Remote."

2. Crossover Content

  • Dead Cells: New weapons like the Pancakes and Cursed Sword, plus a Beheaded vanity set and unique dungeon room structures.
  • Palworld: Discover "Pal Spheres" as rare drops and encounter 2D versions of iconic Pals like Lamball as new pets and minions.

3. Inventory & NPC Management

The update introduces a smart-sort feature for the inventory and a dedicated NPC management tab that allows you to swap housing locations instantly without NPCs needing to physically walk to the new room.

New Items & Totals

With 1.4.5, Terraria now boasts over 6,000 unique items. New additions include:

  • The Boulder Staff: Summon bouncing boulders that scale with your melee/summoner damage.
  • Storage Crystals: New furniture that acts as a localized "wireless bridge" for crafting.
  • Dynamic Banners: Banners that provide buffs to multiple enemy types based on biome.

Technical Optimizations

Multiparty latency in large worlds has been reduced by 40% thanks to a new Chunk-Based Data Syncing method. This is especially beneficial for high-population servers with 100+ players.

tModLoader for 1.4.5 is currently in an alpha state. If you rely on major mods like Calamity or Thorium, it is recommended to stay on the 1.4.4 branch until these projects are fully updated.
