Terraria: Downloading Your World
Whether you want to play your server world in Single Player, edit it with TEdit, or just make a local backup, downloading your .wld file is a fundamental admin task.
1. File Extension
You are looking for .wld files. Ignore .wld.bak (backup) unless the main file is corrupted.
2. Server Path
On Supercraft servers (Linux), worlds are located at: /terraria/Worlds/.
3. Local Path
To play it locally, you must place the file in: Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds\ on your Windows PC.
Step-by-Step Guide
- **Stop the Server.** Downloading a world while it is being written to can cause corruption.
- Open your **File Manager** (or connect via FTP/SFTP).
- Navigate to
/terraria/Worlds/. - Identify your world file (e.g.,
MySuperWorld.wld). - Right-click and select **Download**.
Restoring to Single Player
Once you have the file on your computer:
- Press
Windows Key + R. - Paste:
%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds. - Drag and Drop your downloaded
.wldfile into this folder. - Launch Terraria -> Single Player -> Select Character.
- Your world should now appear in the list!
Warning: If you use TShock, there may also be a .sqlite database file. The .wld contains the map (blocks/walls), but TShock stores region protections and user groups in the database. If you just want the map, the .wld is enough.
Safe keeping. Host your Terraria server with Supercraft and enjoy automated remote backups that keep your world safe without manual downloading.
