Terraria: Enabling tModLoader for Modded Multiplayer

To play with massive content mods like Calamity, Thorium, or Spirit, you must switch your server from the standard Vanilla software to **tModLoader**. tModLoader acts as a bridge between the core game and the Steam Workshop, allowing for deep customization and community-created content.

1. The tModLoader Branch

The current stable release is based on Terraria 1.4.4. You can also select the "Legacy" 1.3 branch if you are returning to an older modded world that hasn't been updated.

2. Steam Workshop Sync

Your server will automatically fetch any mods you enable from the Steam Workshop. Ensure your local client and the server are on the same tModLoader version to prevent "Handshake Failed" errors.

3. Version Matching

tModLoader updates independently of Terraria. When tModLoader releases a patch, you must restart your server to trigger the update and remain compatible with the Steam client.

How to Switch to tModLoader

  1. Navigate to your Supercraft Control Panel.
  2. Click on the Change Game Mode tab on the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Locate the Terraria tModLoader section.
  4. Select your preferred version in the dropdown:
    • tModLoader (Latest): Recommended for all new 1.4.4 modded playthroughs.
    • tModLoader 1.3: Only use this for specific legacy mods that are no longer supported.
  5. Click Change Mode & Reset Server.
Warning: This will stop your server and prepare the new modded environment.

Post-Installation Checklist

Once you've switched to tModLoader, the server structure changes. Here is what to verify:

Directory Purpose
/mods/This is where your enabled.json and manually uploaded .tmod files live.
/executables/Contains the tModLoader executable and runtime dependencies.
/executables/tModLoader-Logs/The most important folder for debugging mod crashes.

Note: Worlds created in Vanilla Terraria can usually be moved to tModLoader, but any "Modded Items" will obviously not exist in the Vanilla file. We recommend starting a fresh world when enabling major content mods like Calamity to ensure proper world-generation of new ores.

Experience Terraria without limits. Set up a modded Terraria server with Supercraft and enjoy 1-click tModLoader installation and automated workshop updates.
