The Forest World Reset & Cleanup Guide
World resets are tempting because they feel decisive, but they are often a lazy substitute for better backup discipline and cleanup planning. Reset only when the group agrees that recovery costs more than starting over.
Use cleanup first
Best when the problem is social, local, or reversible.
Use restore second
Best when a recent known-good backup exists.
Use reset last
Best when the whole group wants a new start and accepts the loss.
Operator rule: announce the options before you act. Players tolerate resets much better when they understand why cleanup or rollback was not enough.
Need safer rollback options? Run The Forest on Supercraft and keep backup-based recovery available.
