The Front Modding & Cluster Migration
As official support for The Front has slowed, the community has stepped in with performance patches and rebalancing mods. This guide covers how to install the Community Patch and migrate your character to stable private server clusters.
๐ ๏ธ Modding Overview
- Community Patch: Fixes long-standing 1.0 bugs and optimizes server-side scripts.
- Rebalance Mods: Adjusts the steep late-game grind and resource costs for solo/small groups.
- Cluster Migration: The ability to move your character between linked private servers.
- Performance Scripts: Reduces memory leaks common in long-running The Front servers.
Installing the Community Patch
Most community fixes are installed via the server's Plugins folder. We recommend the "Front-Fixes-2026" bundle available on most modding forums:
- Download the patch files to your local machine.
- Connect to your server via SFTP.
- Upload the
.pakfiles to/Front/Content/Paks/. - Restart the server. The clients will automatically download the necessary assets upon joining.
Private Cluster Migration
Official servers are frequently offline or lag-heavy. Many players are moving to Private Clusters. Here is how to migrate without losing your character progress:
๐ค Exporting Character
Admins can enable the CrossServerTravel flag. Use the command /export_character [PlayerName] to generate a .player file in the server's Saved folder.
๐ฅ Importing to Cluster
Place the exported .player file into the Players folder of the new cluster server. The character's level, skills, and inventory will be restored upon login.
Recommended Server Rebalance Settings
To keep your private community active, we recommend these modified values in GameWorldSettings.ini:
[BalanceSettings]
# Reduce the late-game material grind
ResourceCollectionMultiplier=3.0
CraftingSpeedMultiplier=2.0
# Adjust NPC Raid difficulty for smaller groups
NpcRaidIntegrityMultiplier=0.5
TurretDamageMultiplier=1.5
# Performance fixes
MaxDroppedItems=500
DecayTimeMultiplier=0.5
Running a Performance Script
The Front is known for "Ghost Buildings" that consume RAM. Use this periodic admin command or a scheduled script to keep the server clean:
/cleanup_ghosts # Removes structures with 0 HP that haven't de-spawned
/optimize_nav # Re-calculates NPC pathfinding to fix lag spikes
Can I play modded servers on Xbox?
The Front is currently PC-only. Modded servers are only accessible via the Steam version of the game.
Do I need to download mods locally?
Generally, no. As long as the server has them in the Paks folder, Steam will sync them when you join the server.
Is modding safe?
Community patches are developed by the community to extend the game's life. Always back up your world save before applying any major plugins.
