Valheim Traders: Finding Haldor & Hildir

Valheim: The Ultimate Traders & Merchants Guide

There are two primary merchants in the world of Valheim: Haldor, the provider of essential survival gear, and Hildir, his sister who focuses on cosmetics, high-end fashion, and specialized dungeon quests. Finding them is critical for mid-game progression.

1. Haldor (Survival)

Found primarily in the Black Forest. He sells the Megingjord (weight belt) and the Fishing Rod. He is essential for carrying heavy silver and ore.

2. Hildir (Fashion & Quests)

Found primarily in the Meadows (usually further from spawn). She sells clothing and maps to special boss dungeons that unlock new crafting recipes.

3. Trading Currency

Both traders only accept Coins. You can get these by clearing dungeons or selling Amber, Rubies, and Amber Pearls directly to them.

How to Find the Traders

Traders have several possible spawn points on every map. Once you get within 290 meters of a spawn point, a Bag Icon will appear permanently on your map.

  • The Nomad Rule: The first spawn point you approach becomes the permanent home for that trader. All other potential spawn points for that character disappear.
  • Exploration Tip: Explore the Black Forest biomes that are a medium distance from the center of the map. Haldor rarely spawns on your starting island.
  • Coastal Sailing: Sailing near the coast of large islands is the fastest way to trigger the map icon without fighting through the woods.

Hildir’s Quest & Cosmetics

Hildir doesn't just sell items; she provides locations for three high-tier dungeons: Smoldering Tombs, Howling Caverns, and Sealed Towers.

  • The Quest: Clear these dungeons to find Hildir's Brass Chests. Return them to her to expand her inventory with rare clothing items.
  • Barber Station: Hildir sells the components for the Barber Station, allowing you to change your hair and beard styles in-game.
  • Fireworks: She sells various rocket designs for celebrations after defeating bosses!

Merchant Safety: Both traders have a protective magical dome around their camp. Enemies cannot enter this dome, and you are protected from the environment (Resting buff active). You can build a portal just outside the dome for safe travel.
