Ark Ascension Guide and Boss Requirements: The Ultimate Walkthrough
Ascend your survivor by defeating the ultimate bosses across the Ark ARKs. Earning those extra levels represents the true endgame of Survival Evolved.
What is Ascension in Ark?
Ascension is the process of defeating the final boss of a canonical Ark map, shedding your mortal coil, and waking up in the next map with an increased level cap. Not only does this progression reveal the game's hidden lore, but it also fundamentally upgrades your character.
Types of Ascension
- The Island Ascension: Defeating the Overseer inside the Tek Cave. Grants +5, +10, or +15 max levels based on difficulty.
- Aberration Ascension: Defeating Rockwell. Grants +5, +10, or +15 max levels.
- Genesis Part 1: Defeating the Corrupted Master Controller. Grants +5, +10, or +15 max levels.
- Genesis Part 2: Defeating Rockwell Prime. Grants +5, +10, or +15 max levels.
Note: Defeating the Manticore (Scorched Earth) or the King Titan (Extinction) progresses the story but does not grant extra level caps natively. Extinction's King Titan does, however, yield the Homo Deus record.
The Island: Defeating the Overseer
Prerequisites and Tributes
To enter the Tek Cave located in the volcano, you must present the trophies of the three Guardians of The Island: the Megapithecus, the Broodmother, and the Dragon. You will also need Alpha drops depending on the difficulty you intend to tackle (e.g., Alpha Rex Tooth, Alpha Megalodon Fin).
Recommended Setup
Most tribes bring a combination of high-level mutated Rexes or Therizinosaurs equipped with Ascendant saddles. Veggie cakes for Theris are a phenomenal healing strategy during the long slog through the lava cave and the Overseer fight. Don’t forget your Tek Armor and plenty of Element!
