Enshrouded: Multiplayer Quest Progression
One of the most confusing aspects of Enshrouded for new players is how Quests work on a dedicated server. Unlike V Rising or Valheim, **Enshrouded quests are Server-Global**, not Character-Specific.
1. Global State
If Player A completes the "Find the Blacksmith" quest, the Blacksmith is unlocked for EVERYONE on the server instantly.
2. Missing Out
If you log in after a friend played all night, you will find your Journal filled with completed quests you never saw.
3. Personal Loot
While quest steps are shared, the **Shroud Roots** and **Skill Points** are personal. You still need to visit the locations to get the XP/Points.
How to Manage "The Desync"
This design choice forces groups to play together or risk spoiling the story for offline friends. Here is how to manage it:
- **The "Core Group" Rule:** Agree that Main Story quests (unlocking NPCs like Hunter, Alchemist) happen only when everyone is online.
- **Resource Runs:** Encourage offline players to focus on building, mining, or exploring unrelated POIs rather than advancing the journal.
- **Multiple Worlds:** If you have a friend who plays 12 hours a day, they should probably have a separate Solo world for their grinding.
Can I Reset Quests?
No. Once a quest is flagged as "Complete" in the server database, it cannot be reset without wiping the entire world.
However, you CAN create a new character.
- **New Character:** Starts at Level 1, keeps recipe knowledge if they join an old world, but gains personal Skill Points from roots again.
- **New World:** Fully resets everything.
Future Updates
Keen Games has acknowledged the feedback regarding this system. A "Personal Progression" mode is a highly requested feature on their roadmap, but as of 2025, the Global system remains the default.
