Factorio Space Age Dedicated Server Setup (2.0)

Space Age brings Factorio 2.0 progression, space platforms, and off-world production. This guide shows how to enable the expansion on a dedicated server, keep versions synced, and avoid the most common mod mismatch problems.

Step 1: Update the Server to Factorio 2.0

If you self-host, update via SteamCMD or your provider panel. Factorio is paid, so use a Steam account that owns the base game:

steamcmd +login your_steam_user +force_install_dir /opt/factorio +app_update 427520 validate +quit

If you use a hosting panel, switch the server branch to 2.0 (stable) and apply updates.

Step 2: Install the Space Age DLC Files

Ensure the same Steam account owns the Space Age DLC. Re-run the update to pull DLC files after purchase.

If you are on a hosted panel, enable the Space Age expansion toggle or select the Space Age profile.

Step 3: Enable the space-age Mod

Space Age is shipped as an official mod. Verify it is enabled in mod-list.json:

If you run other overhaul mods, disable them until Space Age compatibility is confirmed.

Step 4: Choose a Save Strategy

  • New world (recommended): Start fresh for full Space Age progression.
  • Convert existing world: Backup first, then load once to update the save.
  • Keep a vanilla copy: Save a pre-expansion backup for rollback.

Step 5: Launch and Validate

Start the server and confirm all players are on Factorio 2.0 with Space Age enabled. If you see a mod mismatch, compare mod lists and ensure the space-age entry is enabled on both server and client.

Troubleshooting

Server starts but Space Age content is missing

Check mod-list.json and confirm the DLC files were downloaded with an owning Steam account.

Players get a version mismatch

Verify the server and clients are on the same 2.0 build and that the Space Age DLC is installed locally.

Mods fail to load

Temporarily disable non-official mods and re-enable them one at a time after updates.
