Palworld: Sakurajima Island & Oil Rig Raids
The Sakurajima update (June 2024) is Palworld’s largest content expansion to date. It introduces a massive new Japanese-themed island, a new level cap (Lv. 55), and the game's first true "Stronghold" raid.
1. Exploring Sakurajima Island
Located in the northwest of the map, Sakurajima is a beautiful but dangerous island featuring cherry blossoms, misty forests, and a giant volcano.
- The Moonflower Faction: This new enemy faction guards the island. They utilize advanced weaponry and powerful new Pals like Selyne.
- Level Cap: The player and Pal level cap has been raised to 55. You will need the extra power to survive the end-game bosses here.
2. New Pals & Variants
Sakurajima introduces over 40 new Pals and elemental variants (Fusion Pals).

3. The Oil Rig Raid (Stronghold)
Controlled by the Rayne Syndicate, the Oil Rig is a massive offshore structure located east of Marsh Island. This is true end-game content.
- Anti-Air Defenses: The rig has automated laser turrets that will shoot down any flying mount. Approach by swimming (using Jormuntide or Azurobe) to avoid detection.
- The Goal: Crude Oil. The rig is the primary source for Crude Oil, which is required for crafting Plasteel (the strongest material in the game).
- Looting: Look for large yellow chests hidden across the decks. They contain Legendary Schematics and high-tier ores.
4. New Technology: Plasteel & Extractors
To produce end-game gear, you must master the new Crude Oil economy.
- Crude Oil Extractor: Build these on oil spots in the desert or on Sakurajima. They require massive amounts of power (Electric Generators).
- Plasteel: Refined from Crude Oil, Paldium, and Iron. Used for Lv. 50+ Armor and the ultimate Rocket Launchers.
Pro Tip: Use the Pal Dogen when raiding the Oil Rig. Its "Homeward Prayer" skill allows you to teleport back to your base instantly with all your loot, bypassing the Syndicate guards on your way out.
