One Year Survival: Power, Water & Winter

Project Zomboid: One Year Survival Guide

Surviving the first week of Project Zomboid is about combat and looting. Surviving the first year is about logistics, infrastructure, and outlasting the seasons. This guide covers the critical transitions from early-game panic to sustainable living.

1. Utility Shutoff

Water and power fail within 30 days. Use the AEBS radio frequency (often 89.4MHz) to get a 2-day warning on weather and power grid status.

2. Plumbing Water

Build Rain Collector Barrels above a sink. Use a Pipe Wrench to "Plumb" the sink, providing filtered water regardless of the city grid.

The Generator Economy

Once the grid is dead, your survival depends on gasoline.

  • Safety First: Never run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide poisoning will kill you faster than the zombies. Keep it on an outdoor balcony or ground level.
  • Maintenance: Generators lose condition over time. Repair them with Electronic Scraps before they drop below 20% condition, or they may catch fire.
  • Gas Stations: You will need to plug a generator into the gas station itself to power the pumps once the grid fails.

Surviving the Long Winter

Winter in Knox Country is brutal. Foraging is nearly impossible, and your body requires higher calories to stay warm.

  • Antique Stoves: These are the ultimate base upgrade. They provide heat and cooking without electricity. Look for them in the **Muldraugh Large Warehouse** or the cabins in the woods.
  • Antique Choice: High-calorie foods like Cabbages and trapped Rabbits are essential to maintain weight during the lean months.
  • Clothing: Use the Tailoring skill to add Leather Strips to your outerwear for added insulation and bite protection.

Pro Tip: Snow does not water your crops! During winter, you must manually water your farm daily. High-yield crops like Potatoes are best for long-term storage.
