Valheim Roadmap 2026 — Deep North & What's Next
Valheim's biome roadmap has been one of the more clearly-telegraphed in survival games. Iron Gate Studio shipped Ashlands as one of the major late-Early-Access biomes, with the Deep North biome being the next major content target. This page tracks where Valheim is in 2026, what Iron Gate has signaled, and what hosts and players should plan around.
Where the game is now
Valheim is still officially in Early Access despite enormous polish and content. Ashlands is shipped; Deep North is the next big biome on Iron Gate's roadmap.
What Iron Gate is focused on
Continued biome rollout and quality-of-life patches. The Deep North update is the headline item; smaller patches between major biome drops fill out crafting, building, and tuning.
Crossplay
Already shipped — Steam (PC), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Game Pass, and PlayStation 5 all play together. See Is Valheim Cross-Platform? for the full matrix.
2025 in Review (Where We Came From)
Heading into 2026, Valheim has had years of content waves on the public biome roadmap:
- Ashlands. The fire-realm biome that lived on the roadmap for years before shipping; brought new enemies, weapons, and the hardest tier of content yet.
- Mistlands earlier delivered the dwarf/seeker content, building parts overhaul, and food expansion.
- Hildir's Request and other smaller content patches added cosmetics, unique enemies, and the trader-quest loop.
- Crossplay rollout to consoles brought Xbox and PlayStation players into the same world as Steam.
The headline coming into 2026: Ashlands is live, Deep North is next.
Deep North — The 2026 Headline
The Deep North biome has been on the announced biome roadmap since well before Ashlands shipped. Iron Gate has not committed to a hard release date publicly — their pattern is "when it's ready, with public testing first" rather than pre-committed launch windows. What's been signaled:
- Cold-themed biome. Frozen tundra setting with new enemies, weather mechanics, and traversal challenges that lean into the cold.
- New tier of content. Likely above Ashlands in some progression metric — exact slotting depends on what Iron Gate ships.
- Public test branch first. Iron Gate has used Steam's public test branch for prior major content drops and is expected to do the same for Deep North.
Speculation note: "Deep North launches in [specific month] 2026" is community guesswork. Iron Gate has not committed to a date. Treat any specific date you see in community posts as unconfirmed.
Beyond Deep North — Long-Term Roadmap
Iron Gate's public stance is that Valheim will eventually leave Early Access (1.0). The biome roadmap has Deep North as the next major beat; what comes after is less concrete. Possibilities Iron Gate has discussed in interviews and AMAs:
- 1.0 release. Iron Gate has not committed to a specific 1.0 date. Historical pattern suggests it lands after Deep North + at least one polish/content cycle.
- Continued post-1.0 support. Iron Gate has indicated they intend to keep updating Valheim after 1.0 — the studio is small and Valheim is their primary product.
- No DLC announced. Free updates have been the model so far.
Multiplayer / Dedicated Server Outlook
- Crossplay improvements. Each major patch tends to refine the cross-platform experience as Iron Gate hardens edge cases between Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation clients.
- Dedicated server stability. Long-uptime servers continue to get patch-over-patch improvements.
- Modding. Valheim's mod scene runs primarily on Steam (Thunderstore + BepInEx). Console modding is not on the roadmap.
