Tuning VEIN Zombie Spawns and Difficulty
Turn up the heat for veteran survivors by increasing the undead threat level, or drastically increase the horde size for action-focused servers.
Controlling the Horde
VEIN uses a director-like system that spawns zombies based on player proximity and noise. However, the exact density and lethality of the undead are controlled by server variables.
Finding the Zombie Variables
Depending on the server build, these settings can be found in `Config.ini` or specifically `ZombieSettings.ini` if split out by your host.
[ZombieSettings]
MaxZombiesAlive=200
ZombieDamageMultiplier=1.5
ZombieHealthMultiplier=2.0
ZombieSpawnRate=1.2
Key Variables Explained
- MaxZombiesAlive: The absolute cap of undead wandering the map at one time. Increasing this puts a heavy strain on the server's CPU. If you experience lag, lower this number first!
- ZombieDamageMultiplier: A value of 2.0 means a single bite deals double the base damage. Combine this with bleed effects, and players will die rapidly.
- ZombieSpawnRate: How quickly zombies replace dead ones in active zones. A higher multiplier means areas stay highly contested.
Performance Check: If pushing
MaxZombiesAlive beyond 300, it is highly recommended to run the server on bare metal NVMe storage with at least an Intel i9 or Ryzen 9 dedicated CPU to prevent thread exhaustion.
