Vintage Story: First Week Survival Guide

Your first week in Vintage Story is critical for long-term success. This guide covers essential strategies for shelter, food, tools, and progression to ensure you survive and thrive.

Day 1: Immediate Priorities

Hour 1-2: Tool Crafting

  1. Gather Sticks: Break branches from trees (10+ sticks)
  2. Find Flint: Look for gravel patches, break for flint
  3. Craft Flint Knife: 1 stick + 1 flint
  4. Craft Flint Axe: 1 stick + 2 flint
  5. Craft Flint Pickaxe: 1 stick + 2 flint

Hour 3-4: Food & Shelter

  • Gather Berries: Red/blue berries from bushes (20+ portions)
  • Hunt Small Game: Rabbits, chickens for meat
  • Find Cave: Natural shelter or dig into hillside
  • Place Bed: Craft hay bed (12 dry grass)

Hour 5-6: Basic Infrastructure

  • Build Firepit: 4 stones in square
  • Cook Meat: Place on firepit with fuel
  • Craft Storage: Basket or chest for items
  • Set Spawn: Sleep in bed to set respawn point

Critical: Always set your spawn point before nightfall on Day 1. Death without a spawn point sends you back to world spawn.
