Advanced Breeding and Mutation Stacking in Ark

Advanced Breeding and Mutation Stacking in Ark

Breed the ultimate dinosaurs by understanding mutation limits, stat inheritance, and essential server configurations for efficient breeding lines.

The Mechanics of Mutations

Every time a baby dinosaur is born natively in Ark, it has a roughly 7.3% chance of receiving a mutation. A mutation provides two things:

  1. A random color change to one of the creature's color regions.
  2. A +2 level boost to a random stat (Melee, Health, Stamina, Weight, Oxygen, or Food).

However, mutations stop occurring on a specific parent's side if that parent has a mutation counter of 20 or higher. This is the origin of the "Mutation Stacking" strategy: keeping a completely "clean" (0/20) line of females and breeding them with a highly mutated male.

Configuring Breeding Multipliers on a Dedicated Server

Breeding lines on official servers take months. If you are hosting a dedicated server, you will want to adjust the breeding parameters in your Game.ini file to make it more respectful of players' time.

MatingIntervalMultiplier=0.1
EggHatchSpeedMultiplier=10.0
BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=10.0
BabyCuddleIntervalMultiplier=0.1

Explanation:

  • MatingIntervalMultiplier: Lower means females can mate more often. 0.1 is 10 times faster than official.
  • EggHatchSpeedMultiplier: Higher means eggs hatch quickly. 10.0 reduces a 5-hour incubation to 30 minutes.
  • BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier: Higher means babies grow to adults faster.
Note: When you increase the Mature speed, you must proportionally decrease the Cuddle Interval. Otherwise, babies will grow up before they ask for care, preventing players from hitting 100% imprint.
