How to Enable Flyer Speed Leveling in Ark
Years ago, Wildcard controversially nerfed all flying dinosaurs to have a static movement speed in order to balance PvP content. Server owners can effortlessly restore the highly-requested ability to upgrade flying speed.
The Need for Speed
Without flyer speed leveling, traversing large maps like Ragnarok or The Center on an Argentavis can feel like crawling. Enabling speed leveling allows players to sacrifice points in Melee or Health to create insanely fast scouting Pteranodons or nimble PvP Griffin bombers.
The Configuration Fix
Originally, solving this required installing mods like 'Classic Flyers.' Wildcard eventually relented and added a direct server configuration parameter to re-enable it natively.
Open your Game.ini file and navigate to the [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] block. Add the following line:
bAllowFlyerSpeedLeveling=True
What this affects:
- When enabled, flying creatures will have the
Movement Speedstat unlocked with a clickable '+' arrow upon gaining experience levels. - It affects all ridden flyers: Pteranodon, Argentavis, Quetzal, Tapejara, Griffin, Wyverns, Snow Owl, and Tropeognathus.
- This does not fundamentally change the base speed of newly tamed creatures; it simply allows the user to allocate their earned level-up points into the speed multiplier just like earthly dinosaurs.
PerLevelStatsMultiplier_DinoTamed[9] dramatically in addition to this setting, flyers can move so fast that the game engine cannot load bases and terrain in time, inevitably causing severe server-side rubber-banding or client-side crashes over dense jungles.
