Enshrouded World Reset Boundaries Fix for Dedicated Server
A common source of frustration on Enshrouded dedicated servers is the "disappearing base" phenomenon. Players often spend hours terraforming a mountain or digging a tunnel, only to find the terrain reset to its original state after a server restart. This is not a bug, but a core engine mechanic designed to prevent the world from becoming a scarred wasteland.
🔥 The Sanctuary Zone
Only terrain and objects inside the Flame Altar radius are persistent. Anything built outside this orange box will reset periodically.
⏲️ Reset Timers
By default, public and private dedicated servers reset "external" terrain every 2 hours or upon a full process restart.
How to Prevent Terrain Resets
1. Maximize the Flame Altar Radius
To protect larger builds, you must upgrade your Flame Altar using Shroud Cores. Each upgrade expands the protection cube. If any part of your building or tunnel extends outside this cube, the server will "garbage collect" those voxels upon the next reset cycle.
2. Check for "Dead Zones"
In the 2026 update, certain POIs (Points of Interest) have a hard-coded Reset Override. You cannot build or terraform inside major cities like Glimmerstone without the world eventually reclaiming it. If you see a "Building Restrictive" message, your Flame Altar will NOT save the terrain there.
3. Server Configuration Override
For private server administrators, you can adjust the reset frequency in your enshrouded_server.json, though this is not recommended for high-population servers as it leads to massive save file bloat.
Pioneer Tip: If you are digging a long-distance tunnel for traveling, use Flame Altar Waystations every 80-160 meters to ensure the tunnel remains permanent across server restarts.
Technical Troubleshooting
If your terrain is resetting *inside* an active Flame Altar radius, your server is likely experiencing a Write Permission Error. Ensure the user running the server has full access to the ./savegame/ directory. On Linux/Vine setups, this often requires a chmod -R 777 on the save folder.
