Settlement Guide - Necesse Wiki

Necesse: The Ultimate Settlement & NPC Automation Manual

In **Necesse**, your settlement is more than just a base—it is a sophisticated industrial engine. NPCs in Necesse are highly programmable; they can farm, chop wood, mine, craft potions, and even sort your loot into specific chests while you are out exploring. Mastering the **Settlement Management** system is the key to conquering the brutal late-game bosses.

1. The Settlement Flag

Your flag defines your territory. NPCs will only work within the bounds established by the flag. Place it in a flat, open area with easy access to water for optimal farming.

2. Villager Housing

A "Valid" room requires a Door, a Light Source, and a Bed. High-quality flooring and furniture will increase their Happiness and work speed.

3. Work Priorities

Using the **C** menu, you can assign priorities (1-5) to every NPC. An NPC with priority 1 for 'Hauling' will spend all their time moving items before they try to do anything else.

Recruitment & Specialized NPCs

You can find potential villagers in other settlements, trapped in dungeons, or appearing after specific milestones.

NPC Type Benefit / Specialty
ElderThe first NPC. Provides the 'Settlement Flag' and general tutorial guidance.
BlacksmithEssential for automated gear repairs and high-tier crafting.
AlchemistAutomatically brews potions if provided with ingredients.
PawnbrokerAllows you to sell excess loot for gold directly in your home base.
Ninja / PirateHigh-damage guards that spawn after their respective bosses are defeated.

Advanced Automation: Zones & Logistics

The true power of a Necesse settlement lies in **Zoning**. Press the 'Z' key to open the zoning menu:

  • Forestry Zones: Assign a woodcutter to a zone. They will automatically chop mature trees and replant saplings, ensuring a 24/7 infinite wood supply.
  • Farming Zones: Villagers will till, plant, and harvest crops. Use a separate chest with "Priority 1" for seeds to ensure they never run out.
  • Sorting (The Filter System): Every chest can be filtered. Set a chest to ONLY allow "Iron Ore." All Haulers will automatically move iron from your drop-off box to the correct location.

Defending Your Colony

As your settlement's "Wealth" increases, it will attract raids.

  • Equip Your Guards: You can physically give weapons and armor to your villagers! Right-click an NPC to open their inventory and equip them with shields and bows.
  • Chokepoints: Build walls with single-block gaps. Your guards will stay behind the walls while shooting through the gaps, minimizing the damage they take from melee invaders.
  • Towers: Build elevated platforms for your Archer NPCs to give them a line-of-sight advantage over approaching mobs.

Heads Up: A hungry villager is a slow villager. Ensure you have a central **Food Bin** filled with diverse meals (Omelets, Pot Roasts). High-quality food provides a "Satiated" buff that increases work efficiency by up to 25%.

Automate your way to victory. Host your Necesse server with Supercraft and manage your industrial village with dedicated performance that stays smooth even with 50+ NPCs working simultaneously.
