The Forest: Cannibal Village Locations
Cannibal villages on The Forest's peninsula are key risk-reward points: dense enemy spawns, but also the highest concentration of crafting materials, lore, and cave entrances. There are three primary villages that every player will encounter.
1. Main Village (South-East)
The largest and earliest cannibal point of interest. It sits in the south-east of the peninsula, close to most plane-crash spawn points. Contains 10+ huts with one hut hiding the entrance to Cave 2 (Hanging Cave).
- What's here: bones, sticks, cloth, hide bags, and the first reliable rabbit/lizard skin source.
- The first death: if cannibals kill you in the early game, you wake up hanging in the cave below this village. Your plane axe lies on the ground within reach.
- Risk: moderate by daytime, high at night. Worth scouting before you commit.
2. Riverside Village (North-East)
Located in the northern half of the map on the east side, where rivers and lakes form the landscape. Smaller than the Main Village but spawns a heavy cannibal contingent.
- What's here: bones, cloth, the occasional Molotov ingredients, and good fishing nearby.
- Why visit: this is the natural mid-game raid for upgrading bone armor and weapons.
- Risk: elevated due to limited cover near the river — bring a bow.
3. Lakeside Village (Northern Shore)
On the northern shore of the lake just north of the sinkhole. One of the only locations to find an old pot (used for water collection and cooking).
- What's here: old pot loot drop, cloth, occasional rope/cordage.
- Bonus path: head north of this village and you'll find a cave with the Modern Axe — one of the strongest non-cave-end weapons in the game.
- Risk: moderate, but the path north into the cave is dangerous solo.
How Many Cannibals Are in a Village?
Cannibal density scales with how long your survivor has been alive. A fresh save sees 4–8 cannibals per village; a 30-day survivor with no story progress can see 15+ patrolling. The more days you survive, the more cannibals will be sent after you.
Combat Prep Before Raiding
| Tier | Equipment | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1–3 | Plane axe + crafted spear | Avoid villages entirely. Scout from cliffs. |
| Day 3–7 | Crafted bow + bone armor | Pick off lone scouts. Lure groups with arrows. |
| Day 7+ | Modern axe / crafted bow / Molotovs | Full village raids viable. Save before committing. |
| Late game | Chainsaw + lighter / strong armor | The chainsaw clears villages in seconds; fuel is your only constraint. |
Big Threats Beyond Cannibals
Don't camp inside or directly next to a village. The mutants — Armsies and Virginias — patrol unpredictably and they will destroy your hard work if they find your base. Build away from village patrol routes; defenders won't help against an Armsy charge.
Multiplayer Tip
On a co-op or dedicated server, designate one player as a scout and have at least one defender at base. Cannibal aggression escalates per-player, so a 4-player crew sees significantly heavier patrols than a solo run. See multiplayer desync fixes if you experience teleporting cannibals during raids.
Survive the peninsula. Host a The Forest server with Supercraft and raid villages with friends.
