Empyrion Version Mismatch Fix
Empyrion multiplayer can fail even when the game itself is installed correctly. The client build, dedicated-server build, scenario files and existing save all need a compatible relationship.
Check the four versions
| Layer | Question | Failure symptom |
|---|---|---|
| Client | Did Steam finish the game update? | Join rejected before loading. |
| Dedicated server | Did SteamCMD update the server directory? | Players report an old build or server exits. |
| Scenario | Does the server have the same scenario release? | Missing playfields, content or join errors. |
| Save | Was the galaxy created with this scenario identity? | World loads empty or behaves incorrectly. |
Safe update order
- Announce maintenance and stop the server cleanly.
- Take a complete save and scenario backup.
- Update the dedicated-server files and scenario deliberately.
- Keep the scenario folder identity stable for an existing galaxy.
- Start without players, inspect the log, then test one admin join.
Do not “fix” a version mismatch by deleting the save. That only hides the mismatch by creating a new world. Preserve the galaxy first.
