Hytale Permission Denied: Fix Admin Commands
If you see "You do not have permission" when running commands, your account is not an operator or the permission file did not load correctly.
Quick Checks
| Check | Why It Fails | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Operator status | Account not promoted | Run op add your_username in the server console |
| Permission file | File missing or malformed | Regenerate or restore from backup |
| Permissions not reloaded | Permission changes not applied | Run /perm reload after edits |
Step-by-Step Fix
- Grant operator status. In server console, run:
op add your_username
The slash is optional in the console. The argument is a UUID or the name of a player who is online; for a player who is offline, use their UUID. The server answers "your_username is now an operator!". To undo it, run op remove your_username.
- Confirm your account name. Typos will create a different profile and won’t grant permissions.
- Check
permissions.json. It sits in the server's working directory next toconfig.json. Users are keyed by account UUID, not username, and an operator is a member of thehytale:Admingroup. See the commands and permissions guide for the layout. - Reload after edits. Run
/perm reloadto readpermissions.jsonagain without a restart. If you edit the file by hand, do it while the server is stopped or reload straight after.
Tip: If console commands work but in-game commands do not, you may be logged in with a different account than the one you op’d.
