SCP: Secret Laboratory Remote Admin Roles: Safe Staff Permissions

SCP: Secret Laboratory Remote Admin Roles

Remote Admin is the right place to give moderators in-game powers without handing them server files. The safe model is a small owner role, a deliberately limited moderator role, and a test account that is not the owner.

Role design

RoleTypical accessDo not grant by default
OwnerConfiguration, bans, shutdown and full moderation.Do not share the credentials.
ModeratorWarnings, kicks and round moderation.Server-wide configuration or ownership changes.
Event staffTemporary round tools for a scheduled event.Permanent ban and account-management powers.

Apply a role safely

  1. Find the live config_remoteadmin.txt below the server's port directory.
  2. Copy it before editing.
  3. Change one user or role at a time and preserve the file's existing structure.
  4. Restart or reload as supported by the current server build.
  5. Test the role with a staff account and confirm that an ordinary player has no admin powers.
Never solve a moderation problem by giving everyone admin. Official community rules also treat “free admin” and unrestricted access as a serious server-quality problem.

See the configuration guide for paths and managed SCP:SL hosting for a server where the file access remains with the owner.
