Terraria 1.4.5: Official Skyblock Survival
With Update 1.4.5, Re-Logic officially embraced the community favorite game mode. By using the special seed skyblock (or selecting the "Skyblock" preset in the creation menu), you generate an empty world with only a single floating island.
The Start: Resource Management
You spawn on a small dirt island with one tree and a chest. Every block matters.
The Starter Chest
The chest contains specific items to make progression possible:
- Acorns x5: CRITICAL. If you lose these, you lose your wood source (and the game).
- Water Bucket x1: For obsidian and fishing.
- Lava Bucket x1: For cobble generator.
- Dirt Bombs x10: Use these to expand your land mass efficiently.
Generating Infinite Resources
In Skyblock, you can't mine. You must generate.
🪨 Cobblestone Generator
Lava + Water = Stone.
The most basic machine. Ensure you dig a hole / trench so the water flows INTO the lava, not on top of it (which makes Obsidian).
💧 Liquid Duplication
Pump Duplication is nerfed.
In 1.4.5, you must use the Bottomless Water Bucket (from Angler quests) or the new "Rain Catcher" blocks to generate more liquids.
🌲 Wood & Slimes
Build a platform away from spawn. Slimes will spawn. Kill them for Gel -> Torches. Plant Acorns for Wood.
Progression Roadmap
- Phase 1: The Platform. Expand with wood platforms. Do not use dirt for platforms; save dirt for trees/crops.
- Phase 2: The Merchant. Gather 50 Silver (from Slimes/Pots). Build a house. Buy a Bug Net.
- Phase 3: Fishing. The most important mechanic. Crates are your only source of ores (Copper, Iron, Gold) and accessories (Boots, Balloons).
- Phase 4: Dungeon. Build a bridge to the far left/right. The Dungeon point still exists floating in space. Defeat Skeletron to enter.
From there, Skyblock follows the same order as a normal world - see our full Terraria boss progression guide for the Wall of Flesh, the mechanical bosses, Plantera, and the road to the Moon Lord.
Special 1.4.5 Skyblock Mechanics
To make the mode viable, 1.4.5 changed some drop tables only in this seed:
- Skeletons drop Bones (usually dungeon only) to allow for bonemeal/crafting earlier.
- Demons (if you build down to Hell layer) have a higher chance to drop Guide Voodoo Dolls.
- Hive Blocks can be crafted using Honey + blocks, allowing you to create artificial Jungle biomes.
Challenge your friends to a race. Host a Terraria Skyblock Server with Supercraft and see who can defeat the Moon Lord first on an island of their own making.
