Is Enshrouded Cross-Platform? (2026 Crossplay Status)
Short answer: No crossplay yet. Since 1.0 on October 15, 2026, Enshrouded is on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5, but the two cannot play together: Keen Games' launch FAQ of 13 October said Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch and gave no estimate for when it will be. The Xbox Series X|S edition follows in Spring 2027. Keen Games has described full crossplay as a "possible long-term goal" rather than a launch feature.

What Keen Games Has Actually Said
Across roadmap streams and patch notes, Keen Games has been consistent about crossplay:
- Console launch is split. The PS5 edition shipped day-and-date with the 1.0 full release on October 15, 2026. The Xbox Series X|S edition was delayed to Spring 2027: CEO Jan Jockel said the game's deep terraforming and large-scale building proved more demanding than anticipated, and Keen chose to get each version right rather than rush both.
- Console-to-console can't come before Spring 2027. With only PS5 at launch, PS5-Xbox crossplay is moot until the Xbox edition arrives. Both Sony and Microsoft accept crossplay applications, so the path stays open once both consoles are live.
- PC-to-console is "long-term." Keen has used phrases like "possible long-term goal" without giving a date, and its launch FAQ of October 13, 2026 says the same: no cross-platform play at launch, work in progress, no estimate. Anti-cheat differences and patch-cadence sync between PC and console are the typical blockers.
- Save migration is not promised. No tool has been announced to move a PC save to console at launch.
What Crossplay Would Unlock if Keen Ships It
If full crossplay arrives at or after 1.0, the practical effects for hosted servers and groups:
- Mixed-platform 16-player servers, with PC hosts handling factory-scale builds and console clients joining for the same shared world.
- A larger active player base for matchmaking and shared adventure content (Adventure Sharing V2 is on the post-1.0 roadmap).
- Single-platform server filters, similar to how DayZ added Xbox-PS crossplay in Update 1.29 with opt-in single-platform-only servers.
What You Can Do Today (PC-to-PC)
While crossplay is undecided, full multiplayer is already shipped on PC:
Dedicated server (16 players)
Keen ship a Windows dedicated server. The "Enshrouded Dedicated Server" app on Steam has a single Enshrouded depot and it is Windows only; there is no native Linux build, so anyone telling you to install one on Linux directly is describing something Keen do not publish. The server itself is capped at 16 players per world, is persistent across restarts and is configured through enshrouded_server.json.
Authentication is pure Steam. The server joins a Steam lobby, advertises itself there, runs a Steam auth session against every client that tries to join and then talks to them over Steam's own networking. There is no Epic Online Services layer and no second account system, which is exactly why crossplay is not simply a switch Keen can flip.
One more consequence of that design: the server refuses any client whose build version does not match its own. After a patch, the server and every player have to be on the same version before anyone can connect. See version mismatch if you hit that.
Steam co-op session
The host launches the game, opens to friends through the in-game menu, others join via Steam friends. Limited to 4 players in some session modes; the dedicated server is required for up to 16.

Direct-IP join is supported on PC, useful when running a server on a home network or VPN.
