Is DayZ Cross-Platform? (2026 Crossplay Status)

Why PC and Console DayZ Stay Split
The PC and console editions of DayZ have diverged enough that Bohemia treats them as separate products:
- Mods. PC has the Steam Workshop, hundreds of community mods, and full server-side scripting. Consoles ship a vanilla-only build with no mod support, no Workshop, and no scripting hooks. A crossplay session would either lock PC players out of mods or break the console clients.
- Anti-cheat. PC runs BattlEye for PC; consoles run a separate BattlEye Console build that doesn't speak to the PC version. The two have different cheat surfaces and different ban lists.
- Update cadence. Console patches lag PC by weeks. Crossplay between out-of-sync builds would constantly desync.
- Input balance. Mouse-and-keyboard aim still beats controller in DayZ's slow-paced gunplay; the PvP gap is wider than in arcade shooters where aim-assist evens it out.
Console-to-Console Crossplay (Xbox & PlayStation)
Bohemia rolled out console crossplay in Update 1.29. On the official server program:
- Xbox One / Series and PS4 / PS5 players share the same crossplay server pool.
- Crossplay servers are flagged in the in-game server browser with a crossplay icon.
- Each platform can still opt into single-platform-only servers, useful for clans that don't want mixed lobbies.
- Voice chat works across platforms; party invites still go through each console's friends system.
Hosting a DayZ Server in 2026
What you can rent depends on which platform your group plays:
PC dedicated servers (the standard)
Any PC DayZ server accepts Steam clients on Windows, macOS (via Steam), and Linux (via Proton). PC servers also support the full Workshop mod ecosystem. Expansion, Trader, Namalsk, ChernarusPlus tweaks, etc.
Console crossplay servers
Xbox-PS crossplay servers are part of Bohemia's official program and can't be rented from a third-party host. If your group plays mixed Xbox/PlayStation, you join Bohemia's official crossplay servers in the browser; you don't rent your own.

Xbox-only and PlayStation-only servers can be rented from approved Nitrado partnerships. They run vanilla builds, no mods, no scripting.
