ARK Giganotosaurus in ASA: Nov 6 TLC, Taming & Server Setup

ARK Giganotosaurus in ASA: the November 6 TLC, Taming and Server Setup

Checked October 11, 2026 against Studio Wildcard's Community Crunch 527 (October 10) and the ARK: Survival Ascended dedicated server build 25763660 on our servers.

The Giganotosaurus TLC for ARK: Survival Ascended arrives on November 6, 2026. Until then the Giga is the knockout tame it has always been. After it, Wildcard's new dossier says tranquilizers from a safe spot will not be enough: you draw a Giga's attention by killing alpha-level threats, survive an omega-level fight, provoke its rage and wear the enraged Giga down. A tamed Giga will also share its fury with nearby allies, and it gains a stomp and a tail slam for anything at its rear or underfoot. This page sets out what is confirmed, what is not, how the Giga works today, and the server settings that control it.

TL;DR

  • Date: Giganotosaurus TLC on November 6, 2026, nine days after the Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade on October 28.
  • Confirmed changes: new taming trial (alpha kills, then an omega-level fight against an enraged Giga), rage that buffs allies, stomp and tail slam attacks.
  • Not announced: new stats, whether already-tamed Gigas get the new abilities, exact taming requirements.
  • Server admins: the class name in today's build is Gigant_Character_BP_C; Game.ini keys such as PreventDinoTameClassNames and DinoClassDamageMultipliers are in the shipped server. Back up before both updates.

What the November 6 TLC changes

Everything in this table comes from the dossier and text Wildcard published in Community Crunch 527 on October 10, 2026. Wildcard has not published numbers yet.

TopicBefore the TLC (dossier and wiki)After November 6 (new dossier)
Temperament in the dossierAngryWrathful
RageBuilds as it takes damage; a tamed Giga in rage can turn on its own tribe and throw its riderStill gets tougher the more it is hurt, and now "shares a measure of its fighting fury with allies", provided they stay out of its path
AttacksBite, with the Gnashed bleed on wild GigasAdds a foot stomp and a tail slam that "smash and scatter attackers at its rear or underfoot"
TamingKnockout: put it to sleep with tranquilizers, then feed itKill alpha-level threats to get its attention, survive an omega-level fight, let it exhaust itself, then fight back to provoke its rage and wear the enraged Giga down
Tamed roleA "Capital" beast of war that may turn on its tribeAim it at the enemy and jump clear as its rage flares; staying at a safe distance lets its ferocity embolden you and your allies

Wildcard's own summary of the new taming: "Forget simply finding a safe vantage point and stocking up on tranquilizers." Its September 30 post for the Therizinosaurus TLC ended with "Next stop, Giganotosaurus!", so the Giga is the TLC that follows the Therizinosaurus.

What has not been announced

  • Health, damage and speed values for the new Giga.
  • Whether Gigas that are already tamed keep their old kit or gain the stomp, tail slam and ally buff.
  • What "alpha-level threats" means in practice, how many kills it takes, and whether it differs per map.
  • Any new server setting for the Giga. The September 30 Therizino update added one (AllowVariantDinoPacks), so read the November 6 patch notes before you assume there is none.

Treat any number you see before November 6 as a guess. We will not repeat one here until it ships.

How the Giga works today

Until the TLC goes live, the Giga keeps its current kit. These values come from the official ARK wiki, whose stat block was taken from ARK: Survival Evolved data:

TraitValue or behaviour
Base health, wild80,000
Base health, tamed17,000 (taming removes 63,000 health and 80% of its melee)
Taming methodKnockout; it is not immune to torpor
Weak pointHead takes 1.5x damage
Gnashed (wild bite)Removes 5% of the target's total health over 10 seconds and slows it by 90%
Rage triggerLarge unmitigated damage in a short time; roughly 45% of its maximum health at once enrages it instantly. Flame damage does not build rage
Rage effectDoubled melee damage for some seconds; a tamed Giga throws its rider and attacks everything nearby, allies included. Rage can trigger even with the friendliest PvE and no friendly-fire settings
Immobilised byLarge Bear Trap
BreedingLays fertilised eggs (the build ships PrimalItemConsumable_Egg_Gigant_Fertilized)

For a knockout tame, the wiki's two practical points are: a crossbow is the most narcotic-efficient way to drop a Giga, while a Longneck Rifle with Shocking Tranquilizer Darts is the fastest; and the simplest pen is a ring of Metal Dinosaur Gateways (placed with small gaps rather than snapped, so the fourth fits) around a Large Bear Trap, closed once the Giga is caught. If you want a knockout-tamed Giga, the days before November 6 are when that method is certain to work.

Tribe safety today: because rage is driven by raw damage taken, a tamed Giga that bites a herd of damage-reflecting creatures such as Kentrosaurus can enrage no matter how good its saddle is. Keep tribe members and tames clear of a Giga in a fight until you see what the November 6 version does with its rage.

Server settings for Gigas

These class names are present in the ARK: Survival Ascended dedicated server files we run (Steam build 25763660):

CreatureClass name
GiganotosaurusGigant_Character_BP_C
Tek GiganotosaurusBionicGigant_Character_BP_C
R-GiganotosaurusGigant_Character_BP_Rockwell_C
Corrupted GiganotosaurusGigant_Character_BP_Corrupt_C
Giganotosaurus (Tek Cave)Gigant_Character_BP_TekCave_C
Skeletal Giganotosaurus (event)Bone_Gigant_Character_BP_C
Lightning Giganotosaurus (Astraeos)Gigant_Character_BP_Lightning_C

To spawn one for testing as an admin: cheat summon Gigant_Character_BP_C.

The following keys go in Game.ini under [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]. Every key name below is present in the shipped ArkAscendedServer.exe. Each entry must sit on one line without spaces, and the server needs a restart to read them.

[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
; No Giga taming at all (for example, a PvP server that wants to wait for the TLC)
PreventDinoTameClassNames="Gigant_Character_BP_C"

; Wild Gigas hit for half damage
DinoClassDamageMultipliers=(ClassName="Gigant_Character_BP_C",Multiplier=0.5)

; Tamed Gigas hit for 20% less
TamedDinoClassDamageMultipliers=(ClassName="Gigant_Character_BP_C",Multiplier=0.8)

; Gigas picked less often at spawn points (name tag "Gigant")
DinoSpawnWeightMultipliers=(DinoNameTag=Gigant,SpawnWeightMultiplier=0.5)

; Prevent Gigas from being transferred (cluster servers)
PreventTransferForClassNames="Gigant_Character_BP_C"

The multipliers default to 1.0. DinoClassResistanceMultipliers uses the same syntax and makes a Giga take less damage at values above 1.0. Pick only the lines you need; the values above are examples, not recommendations.

The TLC may or may not keep the same class name. After the November 6 update, summon a Giga with the command above on a test copy of your map: if it spawns, your lines still match.

Two updates in nine days: an admin checklist

Wildcard moved the Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade to October 28 on all platforms (Community Crunch 525, September 26), with mods being recooked from October 5 and modding reopening on October 28; Wildcard notes those dates may shift. The Giga TLC follows on November 6. For an unofficial server that means two restarts with new server builds close together:

  1. Before October 28: take a full backup of the save and your Game.ini and GameUserSettings.ini. See the ASA backup strategy.
  2. October 28: update the dedicated server (Steam app 2430930) and check every mod loads; the modding notes say a list of mods needing author action will be published that day. The UE 5.8 upgrade guide covers the details.
  3. Before November 6: tell players that the new dossier describes a taming trial instead of a tranquilizer knockout, and finish any planned knockout tames.
  4. November 6: back up again, update, then read the patch notes for Giga stats, settings and class names before you re-apply custom multipliers.
  5. After the update: test the summon command, check that your Giga lines still apply, and watch tamed Gigas in the first fights.

FAQ

When does the Giganotosaurus TLC come out in ARK: Survival Ascended?

November 6, 2026, as announced in Community Crunch 527 on October 10, 2026.

Can you still tame a Giga with tranquilizers?

Yes, until the TLC. For the TLC, Wildcard's new dossier describes a trial instead: kill alpha-level threats to draw the Giga, then survive and win an omega-level fight against it once enraged.

Will my tamed Giga change after the TLC?

Wildcard has not said. Back up before November 6 and check the patch notes.

What is the Giganotosaurus class name in ASA?

Gigant_Character_BP_C in the current server build; the spawn name tag is Gigant.
