Avorion Dedicated Server Setup: SteamCMD, Galaxy, Ports & Save

Avorion Dedicated Server Setup

An Avorion server is a persistent galaxy plus the configuration that tells the process how to load it. The safest first boot creates the galaxy, saves it through the game command, stops cleanly, and only then receives further configuration.

Install with SteamCMD

steamcmd +force_install_dir /srv/avorion \
  +login anonymous \
  +app_update 565060 validate \
  +quit

Set a data path if the galaxy should live outside the default location, then start the server once. The first run creates the galaxy directory and its server.ini.

First-boot sequence

  1. Choose a unique galaxy name and seed policy.
  2. Open the game, query and required administration paths.
  3. Wait for the process to finish loading.
  4. Run /save, then /stop rather than killing the process.
  5. Edit server.ini only after the galaxy exists.
Using Supercraft? The Steam install, Linux process, ports, galaxy folder, updates and backups are managed. Use the panel's connection values instead of copying default-port lists.

For sizing by loaded sectors, see the requirements guide. For a managed galaxy, visit Avorion server hosting.
