Best Pals in Palworld (2026): Combat & Work Tier List
Current meta as of June 2026. Palworld 1.0 launches July 10, 2026 and adds new Pals around the World Tree and a second island - we will fold the new arrivals into this list once they are live.
"Best" in Palworld splits two ways: combat (damage, mount speed, raid survivability) and base work (the jobs a Pal does back home). The crucial thing most lists miss: the strongest fighter is usually a poor base worker, and a handful of Pals are good at both. Here is the ranking that actually matters.
S-tier combat Pals
| Pal | Why it's top-tier | How to get |
| Jetragon | The fastest, hardest-hitting flying mount in the game (high Shot Attack + a homing-missile partner skill). Best raw DPS mount - but its only work suitability is Gathering Lv.3, so it is a terrible base worker. | Caught (boss spawn) - cannot be bred. |
| Necromus / Paladius | The Dark/Holy legendary duo. Necromus is a fast ground mount with strong burst; Paladius is a high-HP tank built for raids and tower defense. | Caught (legendary bosses). |
| Frostallion | Legendary Ice flyer - excellent balance of flight speed and damage, and the go-to against fire-heavy fights. | Caught (or bred via special combo). |
| Anubis | The rare dual threat: top-tier melee combat and Handiwork Lv.4 / Mining at base. The single most valuable Pal to own early. | Bred (Penking + Bushi is the popular early route). |
| Jormuntide Ignis | Strong Fire dragon in combat and the only Kindling Lv.4 Pal - elite at base too. | Bred (Blazamut + Jormuntide). |
| Blazamut / Shadowbeak / Astegon | Heavy hitters for late-game bosses and raids; Astegon also doubles as a premier Mining worker. | Caught / bred. |
Best Pals for base work (by job)
| Job | Best Pal(s) | Note |
| Handiwork | Anubis (Lv.4) | Crafts faster than anything; the base's MVP. |
| Kindling (smelting/cooking) | Jormuntide Ignis (Lv.4) | Only Lv.4 Kindling Pal - essential for fast ore smelting. |
| Generating Electricity | Orserk (Lv.4) | Best power source for incubators and production lines. |
| Mining | Astegon / Digtoise / Anubis | Astegon clears ore and coal fast at scale. |
| Medicine / Planting | Lyleen | Strong all-rounder for farms and healing. |
| Transporting / Lumbering / Watering / Cooling | Vanwyrm, Wumpo, Mossanda, Penking | Reliable specialists for the remaining jobs. |
The Jetragon trap (read this before you grind)
New players catch Jetragon, drop it at base, and wonder why nothing gets built. Jetragon is an S-tier fighter and mount with almost no work value. Build your roster in two pools: war Pals (Jetragon, Necromus, Paladius, Frostallion) you ride and fight with, and labor Pals (Anubis, Jormuntide Ignis, Orserk, Lyleen, Astegon) that run the base. Anubis is the one Pal worth slotting into both.
How to actually get the best Pals
Legendaries (Jetragon, Necromus, Paladius, Frostallion) are caught from boss spawns. The rest you breed - and the fastest way to a perfect roster is passing down the Legend passive and high IVs through breeding.
