Valheim Seed Maps: What a Seed Actually Changes
Every "best Valheim seeds" list tells you a seed gives you a different world. That is true, but it hides something more useful: we generated six worlds with Valheim's own world generator and measured them, and the biome budget barely moves between seeds. What a seed changes is where things are, not how much of each thing you get.
Measured across six seeds
- Ashlands was 9.5% of every single world — identical to one decimal place in all six.
- You always spawn in Meadows, with Black Forest roughly 500 m away.
- Swamp never appears within 2,000 m of spawn in any of the six.
- Land was 71.9% to 75.2%. Everything else moved by only one or two points.
How These Maps Were Made
These are not redrawn or traced from another site. We ran a real Valheim dedicated server with a plugin that asks the game's own world generator for the biome and terrain height at every point on a 24-metre grid — 695,556 samples per world, covering the full 10 km radius — and rendered the result. The generator doing the work is the same code that builds the world when you press Start, so the maps match the game by construction.
Each seed below was generated twice and produced a byte-identical result, so what you see is what that seed gives you.
Six Seeds, Rendered
North is up. Blue is Ocean, light green Meadows, dark green Black Forest, olive Swamp, pale grey Mountain, tan Plains, purple Mistlands, white Deep North, red Ashlands. Terrain height is shaded, so coastlines and mountain ranges stand out.
The Numbers
Percentages are of the playable world disc, measured from the samples described above.

What Never Changes
The maps look different, but they are all built to the same plan. Valheim places biomes in rings around the centre of the world, so some things are true in every seed:
- Spawn is always Meadows. All six put you in Meadows at the world centre.
- Black Forest is always close. Between 505 m and 512 m in all six — a seven-metre spread, which is banding, not luck.
- Swamp is always a trip. The nearest Swamp was exactly 2,000 m in all six, because Swamp does not generate inside that radius.
- Deep North is always north, Ashlands always south. In every seed, Ashlands sat at the southern edge and Deep North at the northern one.
- Ashlands is always 9.5% of the world. It is a fixed southern band, so no seed gets you more or less of it.
So if you are seed-hunting for "more Plains" or "less Ashlands", the numbers say you are not going to find it. What is genuinely worth hunting for is layout: how close your first Black Forest and Mountain are, whether your starting island is big enough to build on, and how much open water sits between you and the next landmass.
Two honest caveats
Six worlds is a sample, not a proof about every possible seed — treat the ranges as indicative and the fixed values as strongly suggested rather than guaranteed. And these were generated on the current build; if a game update changes world generation, these maps describe the version they were made on, not the one you may be playing.
Using a Specific Seed
Typing a name when you create a world does not set the seed — Valheim rolls a random one for each new world, which we confirmed by generating the same world name twice and getting two different maps. The seed is a separate field, and on a dedicated server it has to be set before the world is first created, because the world is only generated once. See how to find your world seed if you want to check what you already have.
