Rust Roadmap 2026: The August 6 Force Wipe and Everything Facepunch Has Shipped This Year
Rust’s next force wipe lands Thursday, August 6, 2026. Here is every update Facepunch has shipped in 2026, what is sitting on the staging branch right now, and what a server owner should actually do on wipe day.

Next force wipe: Thursday, August 6, 2026, around 2pm ET (18:00 UTC / 11am PT). Every server on the planet wipes its map that afternoon. Whether your blueprints go with it is a separate question, and one Facepunch answers month by month. See the wipe schedule guide for how to set your own cadence.
The Rust update cadence
Rust has run the same rhythm for over a decade: one update on the first Thursday of every month, shipped alongside a mandatory global wipe. There is no seasonal roadmap, no announced release window, and no public feature list months ahead. Facepunch posts the devblog the same day the update goes live.
That matters for planning. You cannot pre-book around a Rust roadmap the way you can around a Valheim or Palworld launch date, because the roadmap is the calendar. The first Thursday is the only date you need, and it is always a wipe.
What you can do is watch the staging branch. Facepunch develops in the open, and changes land on staging one to three weeks before release. Most of what people call “leaks” for a Rust update are simply staging builds that anyone can install from Steam.
What has already shipped in 2026
Straight from Facepunch’s own devblog archive, in order:
| Date | Update | Why server owners cared |
|---|---|---|
| Jan 1 | Surviving 12 Years | Anniversary update, standard force wipe. |
| Jan 22 | Community Update 268 | Community content drop, no wipe. |
| Feb 5 | Naval Update | Water content, new entities to track in server saves. |
| Feb 17 | Lunar New Year 2026 | Event update, mid-month, no force wipe. |
| Mar 5 | Shipshape | Force wipe. |
| Apr 2 | Spring Clean | Force wipe. |
| May 7 | Upgrade hard, raid harder | Raid balance, worth re-checking plugin behaviour. |
| Jun 4 | Built Different | Building changes, force wipe. |
| Jul 2 | Common Ground | The big one. Apartment Complex monument with rentable apartments, player-run rentable shops, and a full Clan system with Clan Tables and clan chat. Full breakdown here. |
August 6 is therefore the first ordinary wipe on top of the Common Ground systems. If you run a community server, this is the first month where clans and apartment rent have a full cycle of real player behaviour behind them rather than launch-week chaos.
What is on the staging branch for August 6
Read this before the list. Facepunch has not published the August devblog. Everything below is observed on the public staging branch, where values change or get pulled before release as a matter of routine. We are listing it because it is genuinely useful for planning, and flagging it because plenty of sites will print these numbers as confirmed fact on Thursday morning and some of them will be wrong.
The theme of the August build is making monuments interactive rather than static loot stops.
1. The Heavy Fuse and a powered Power Plant
A new Heavy Fuse item goes into fuse boxes inside the Power Plant’s green keycard area. Supplying fuses raises the monument through power stages, and each stage switches on capability elsewhere on the map. It turns the Power Plant from a loot run into a piece of shared infrastructure that a server’s population collectively decides to feed or ignore.
For a community server owner that is the interesting part: it is the first Rust mechanic in a while where the state of a monument depends on what your players did earlier in the wipe, not on the server config.
2. A second recycler at the top power stage
At the highest power stage the Power Plant gains a second, higher-tier recycler alongside the existing one, with better yield and a faster cycle than a standard recycler. The exact multipliers are still moving on staging, so we are not going to print a number that changes on Wednesday. Expect it to be meaningfully better than a normal recycler and expect the area around it to be a fight.
3. Monuments that switch on
Oxum’s Gas Station gets working garage doors and a functional vehicle lift, and the Supermarket gets a lootable freezer. Both come online at the first power stage, which is the design point: low-tier monuments become useful once somebody has invested in the grid.
4. Quality-of-life changes that touch your server directly
- Apartment rent is capped. The Common Ground rent box will accept a much shorter maximum of upkeep rather than effectively unlimited scrap, so an apartment cannot be paid off for the whole wipe on day one. If your server leaned on apartments as a soft-start option for new players, the economics change.
- High external walls now cost upkeep. Wooden walls and gates start contributing to the tool cupboard bill. Wall-spam compounds is about to get more expensive, which is very likely the point.
- Fishing Village sells kayaks and paddles directly rather than the blueprints, which is a real quality-of-life win for solo and small-group players on a fresh wipe.
- Spoiled produce stacks properly, a small inventory fix that farming servers will notice immediately.
What server admins should plan for
Wipe day is the only day that matters for player numbers
Rust populations are wipe-cycle shaped. A community server fills in the first 48 hours after a force wipe and bleeds steadily after that. If your server is not up, updated and listed within an hour of Facepunch pushing the build, you have missed the window that decides your month. Plan to be at your keyboard at 2pm ET (18:00 UTC) on Thursday, or run a host that updates for you.
Have your moderation set up before the rush rather than during it. Owner and moderator IDs, ban syntax and the convars you are likely to reach for are all in our Rust admin and console commands list, and remember to run server.writecfg afterwards so the changes survive the wipe-day restart.
CPU is the bottleneck, not RAM
Rust is unusual among survival games in that single-thread CPU performance decides your tick rate long before memory does. A 100-slot server on a fast modern core will comfortably beat the same population on a machine with twice the RAM and a slower chip. Size for clock speed first.
Plugin compatibility is the silent killer
Every force wipe is also a game update, and every game update can break Oxide and Carbon plugins. The failure mode is not a crash, it is a server that boots and then quietly misbehaves. Before wipe day, know which plugins you actually need, and be ready to start without the ones that have not updated yet. Our notes on Oxide and uMod plugins and Carbon versus Oxide cover the differences.
Pick your seed before Thursday, not during it
A force wipe means a new map, and a new map means a new seed. Deciding your seed while a hundred players are hammering the connect button is the wrong time. Scout candidates in advance from our Rust map seed gallery, and if you want something bespoke, custom maps via RustEdit survive force wipes as long as you regenerate correctly.
Decide your blueprint policy in advance
Facepunch forces the map wipe. Blueprints are a separate lever, and it is yours. Servers that never wipe blueprints keep veterans and lose newcomers. Servers that wipe everything monthly reset the playing field and lose people who liked their progress. Neither is wrong, but changing your mind mid-wipe is, so publish your policy where players can see it.
How to track the roadmap yourself
- The staging branch. In Steam, right click Rust, Properties, Betas, and select staging. This is where the next update actually lives.
- Facepunch’s devblog, published the same day the update ships.
- The commits feed. Facepunch commits publicly, and the commit log tells you what is being worked on well before anybody writes an article about it.
Bottom line
Rust does not have a roadmap in the sense other survival games do. It has a metronome: first Thursday, every month, always a wipe. August 6, 2026 brings the first normal wipe after Common Ground, and a staging build that makes the Power Plant something your players power up together rather than a loot stop they run alone.
The practical version for a server owner is short. Be updated and online at 2pm ET (18:00 UTC). Have your seed picked. Know which plugins you can live without. Publish your blueprint policy before anyone asks.
