WARDOGS Roadmap 2026: Early Access on 10 September, Closed Beta & What Hosts Should Plan For

The WARDOGS 2026 roadmap: BULKHEAD and Team17’s 100-player tactical FPS, its 1 million wishlists, the closed beta running this weekend, and what community-server operators should be lining up before Early Access.

TL;DR for hosts: WARDOGS enters Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026. BULKHEAD passed 1 million wishlists on 14 August and is running a closed beta the weekend of 22 August with the NDA lifted. Community servers are planned; the distribution model has not been announced. Skip to host impact →

Where BULKHEAD Communicates

BULKHEAD posts to Steam News under WARDOGS, and the game is published by Team17. Beta scheduling, wishlist milestones and pre-order details have all landed there first. Press coverage (PCGamesN, Steam’s Global Top Sellers listings) has followed each announcement rather than led it.

Where the Game Stands

Unreleased and unusually hot. WARDOGS is a 100-player tactical FPS built around three-team battles over randomized control zones, with destructible environments, vehicles, building and proximity voice. On 14 August 2026 BULKHEAD announced it had crossed 1 million Steam wishlists six months after reveal. The WARDOGS Playtest client went pre-loadable ahead of the closed beta.

What’s Confirmed for 2026

  • Early Access on 10 September 2026: confirmed on the Steam store page, published by Team17, with an expected Early Access period of one to two years.
  • Closed Beta, weekend of 22 August 2026: schedule posted 20 August. The NDA was lifted for it, pre-orders carried guaranteed access, and BULKHEAD said it was deliberately throttling sign-up-pool invites “to help us analyse our server scaling and stability before heading into Early Access”.
  • 1 million wishlists: announced 14 August 2026.
  • Community servers are planned: BULKHEAD has said so, including community-server-specific settings such as a hardcore configuration.

What is not confirmed: how community servers will be distributed. “Community servers” could mean a public dedicated-server download, builds issued to hosting partners, or developer-run servers with community-controlled settings. Nothing has been announced, and no WARDOGS dedicated-server tool is visible on Steam yet. We are not going to guess.

What Server Admins Should Plan For

Hardware

Final numbers depend on the server build, which does not exist publicly yet. The shape is clear from the game: 100 players in three-team battles with destruction, vehicles and building is among the heaviest workloads in game hosting, closer to Squad than to a co-op survival server.

  • Scrims and practice, up to ~32Plan S
  • Community server, up to ~64Plan M
  • Full 100-player battlesPlan L

Expect high-clock CPU cores to matter more than core count, real bandwidth per player, and DDoS protection to be a requirement rather than an upsell, because large PvP servers are the most targeted category in hosting. We have written up the shape of the problem in planning a 100-player server and WARDOGS server requirements.

Launch-week hygiene

Launch weeks are capacity crunches across the whole hosting industry, and the first wave of servers fills fastest. Three things worth doing before 10 September:

  • Recruit admins first. A 100-player server without moderators present is a rule-free zone. Every large-scale FPS community that lasted recruited staff before launch, not after the first incident.
  • Decide your ruleset identity early: tactical, casual, or hardcore once BULKHEAD ships those settings. Identity is what players search for in a browser full of similar names.
  • Work the launch-day checklist before the day itself. Ruleset, admin roster, Discord and backups all want to exist on 9 September, not 11th.
  • Watch the beta findings. BULKHEAD explicitly used the closed beta to test server scaling; whatever they publish afterwards is the best available signal on real hardware requirements.

Bottom Line

WARDOGS is the clearest launch-window opportunity of 2026: a million wishlists, a dated Early Access start, and a developer that has said community servers are part of the plan. The single open question is how those servers will be distributed, and until BULKHEAD answers it nobody can promise a server on day one, including the hosts advertising WARDOGS today. We will update this page the moment that is announced.
