Is Enshrouded Cross-Platform? Crossplay 2026

Is Enshrouded Cross-Platform? Crossplay Status (2026)

Short answer: no, Enshrouded is PC-only as of 2026. Keen Games has not released Enshrouded on PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch. PC ↔ PC multiplayer through Steam works normally; that's the only place crossplay exists.

The reality

Enshrouded is on Steam (Windows). No console build, no Mac native, no Linux native. Steam Deck via Proton works for many players but isn't an official platform.

What about consoles

Keen Games has not announced a console release. Public posture has been "focus on EA → 1.0 on PC first". Treat any console rumor as speculation.

What works

PC ↔ PC multiplayer through Steam. Co-op up to the per-server cap, dedicated servers via SteamCMD, full feature parity across all PC players in the same world.

Platform Compatibility Matrix

PlatformStatusNotes
Steam (Windows)Native; full multiplayer.
Steam Deck~ ProtonRuns via Proton; performance varies. Not a "Verified" platform officially.
Mac (Steam)No native build. May work in some virtualization but unsupported.
Linux (Steam)~ ProtonSame as Deck — Proton-based, not native.
PlayStation 5 / 4Not released.
Xbox Series X|S / OneNot released.
Nintendo SwitchNot released.

What Works on PC

Steam multiplayer

Standard Steam multiplayer through invites and the in-game friends list. Co-op groups join the host's world; or everyone connects to a dedicated server using its address and password. Multiplayer scaling has improved patch over patch since EA launch.

Dedicated servers

Keen Games provides a dedicated server build via SteamCMD. Common practice for groups larger than a couple of friends since dedicated servers don't depend on the host being online. See managed Enshrouded server hosting for ready-to-go servers.

Steam Deck via Proton

Many players run Enshrouded on Steam Deck via Proton. Performance is lower than a desktop PC but playable. Not officially supported by Keen Games — community-managed.

Why No Console Version

Keen Games hasn't given a single public answer for "no consoles", but the contributing factors mentioned in interviews and community AMAs are the typical ones for ambitious indie titles:

  • EA cycle priority. Keen has focused on shipping content patches and reaching 1.0 on PC before considering platform expansion.
  • Engine and asset constraints. Voxel-style worlds with destructible terrain are heavy; certifying that for console hardware is non-trivial.
  • Studio focus. Small team; platform expansion is a multi-quarter engineering investment Keen hasn't committed to.

None of the above is a "no, never". Keen could announce consoles in the future. As of 2026, they haven't.

Workarounds for Console-Locked Friends

  • GeForce NOW. Stream the PC version on a PS5/Xbox/iPad/Android device. Adds 30–50ms latency but works for the genre's pacing.
  • Buy on Steam, run on Steam Deck. Closest thing to a console experience while still being a PC.
  • Pick a different game for that group. If consoles are required, see Valheim (PC + Xbox + PS5 with full crossplay) or Conan Exiles (PC + Xbox + PS5, separate server pools).

Cross-Save

Within PC, Steam Cloud syncs single-player saves across your own machines on the same Steam account. Multiplayer characters live on the server they were created on; there's no cross-server character migration. Console cross-save is N/A — no console version.

Hosting an Enshrouded Server

For PC groups, dedicated hosting is the standard path for stable multiplayer beyond a couple of players:
