How to Set Up a HumanitZ Dedicated Server
This guide installs and configures a HumanitZ dedicated server with SteamCMD. The steps, file names and launch parameters are checked against the 1.1A server build of 20 October 2026 and the readme the developers ship with it.
Prerequisites
- OS: Windows, or Linux with the native Linux build. The Linux server is published on the Steam beta branch
linuxbranchof the same app; no Wine is needed. - RAM: an empty 1.1 server held about 3.3 GB on our test node, so plan for 6 to 8 GB for a small group and more as the world fills up.
- Disk: the Linux server files are about 1.5 GB, plus room for saves and backups.
- SteamCMD: required to download and update the files. The server app ID is
2728330; it downloads with an anonymous login.
1. Install SteamCMD
Download SteamCMD and extract it, for example to C:\SteamCMD on Windows. On Linux, install it from your distribution's package or the same download.
2. Download the Server Files
Windows:
Linux, from the linuxbranch beta:
Run the same command again to update. After an update, players on the new game version can only join a server that runs it too.
3. Configuration
The install contains HumanitZServer/REF_GameServerSettings.ini, the developers' reference with every setting and a comment explaining it. Copy it to GameServerSettings.ini in the same folder; the server reads that file at start and creates one if it is missing. Keep the REF file: updates refresh it, so it shows new settings when they appear, as 1.1 did with four of them.
Then edit the copy. The basics are in [Host Settings]:
ServerName="My HumanitZ Server": avoid the word "Official", which the developers warn can stop the server starting or showing up in the list.Password="": leave empty for an open server.AdminPass="YourAdminPassword": for in-game admin access.MaxPlayers=16: the player limit.
Gameplay settings are in [World Settings]. The loot, PvP and PvE and performance guides explain them.
4. Launch the Server
Linux, from the install folder:
Windows: start the server executable in the install folder with the same parameters; the developers' readme names it TSSGameServer.exe and adds -steamservername=MyDedicatedServer as an example. A short start.bat with that line saves typing.
The server is up when its log, HumanitZServer/Saved/Logs/HumanitZServer.log, shows Session created!. The first start creates a new world.
5. Networking & Ports
- 7777 UDP: game port, set with
-port. - 27015 UDP: Steam query port for the server browser, set with
-queryport. - RCON, TCP: only if you enable
RCONEnabledand connect from outside; the port isRConPort, 8888 by default.
The port forwarding guide covers routers and firewalls.
6. Become Admin
Join your server, open chat and type /AdminAccess YourAdminPassword. For permanent admins, list Steam IDs in AdminList.txt in the HumanitZServer folder. The admin commands list has every chat and RCON command.
7. Mods
HumanitZ has no Steam Workshop; community mods come as .pak files that go in HumanitZServer/Content/Paks/~mods/. The mods guide covers installing them, checking the log and what players need.
Tip: if the server does not show in the browser, check the log for the port it bound to, keep SearchID="HumanitZ_Dedicated" for the public list, and see the troubleshooting guide.
Skip the setup: a Supercraft HumanitZ server runs the native Linux build, updates from Steam on restart, and puts the main game settings in a configuration screen. View plans.
