WARDOGS Community Servers: What Is Confirmed Before Early Access

WARDOGS - BULKHEAD's 100-player tactical FPS, published by Team17 - enters Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026. For clans and communities planning a server, here is the honest state of knowledge: what is confirmed, what is open, and what you can usefully do before launch day.

Confirmed

  • The game. 100-player battles between three teams over randomized control zones on large maps, with destructible environments, vehicles, building and proximity voice. Cash-based progression persists between matches.
  • The date. Early Access on September 10, 2026, with BULKHEAD describing an expected one-to-two-year Early Access period.
  • Community servers are planned. The developer has said community servers are part of the plan and has talked about community-server-specific settings, hardcore configuration among them. Servers run by communities are intended to matter in this game.

Open questions (and why they matter)

  • The distribution model. "Community servers" can mean a publicly downloadable dedicated server package, server builds provided to hosting partners, or developer-operated servers with community-controlled settings. BULKHEAD has not yet said which - and it decides who can run one and how.
  • Timing. Whether community servers arrive at Early Access launch or later in the roadmap is unannounced.
  • Platform of the server build, admin tooling, and configuration surface - all to be revealed with the build itself.

What a WARDOGS server will demand

Whatever the distribution model, the workload is predictable from the game's shape. A 100-player battle with destruction, vehicles and building is Squad-class hosting, not five-friends-survival-class: expect high-clock CPU cores to hold tick rate under load, double-digit gigabytes of RAM, real bandwidth per player, and - because large PvP servers are the top DDoS target in hosting - network protection as a requirement rather than an extra.

The community-server culture WARDOGS is aiming at follows the pattern of every large-scale FPS before it: named servers with consistent rules, known admin teams, regulars who come back nightly. If that pattern holds, the server community - not the match - is the durable thing, and the communities that establish their server identity early tend to keep it.

How to prepare before September 10

  1. Assemble the staff first. A 100-player server without admins present is a rule-free zone; the successful large-FPS communities recruit moderators before launch, not after the first crisis.
  2. Decide your ruleset identity early - the sweaty tactical server, the casual one, the hardcore-settings one once BULKHEAD ships those options. Identity is what players search for in a browser full of look-alike names.
  3. Line up the hosting decision now. Launch weeks are capacity crunches everywhere. If you want a server in the first wave, be in a queue before the wave: our WARDOGS server hosting page takes free reservations that lock the launch price and front-of-queue placement, and we deploy the day community server builds are available.

This page will be updated as BULKHEAD announces the community-server model; the facts above are current as of late August 2026, ahead of the closed beta weekend.

We don't host WARDOGS

These guides stay published because they are useful, but WARDOGS is not a server you can rent from us. Have a look at what we do run instead.
