Wurm Unlimited GM and Admin Permissions
Keep player moderation and machine administration separate. A GM character can resolve in-world problems; RMI and launcher access can control the server itself and must remain private.
Permission layers
| Layer | Use | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| GM character | In-world moderation and recovery. | Give to trusted staff only. |
adminpwd | Unlocks admin commands from the game. | Do not share in public chat. |
| RMI | External commands and queries for advanced setups. | Bind locally or privately; never expose casually. |
Safe staff setup
- Create one owner GM and test it before creating moderator accounts.
- Keep the admin password in a secret store.
- Do not expose RMI ports to the public Internet.
- Back up before changing powers or server rules.
If a moderator only needs to resolve player disputes, give them a GM role—not shell, launcher or RMI access.
For server settings see the wurm.ini guide. Managed Wurm hosting keeps the infrastructure boundary separate from your game staff.
