The Isle Evrima Connection Timeout Fix
A timeout does not prove that the server is offline. Evrima has separate client-branch, version, EOS-registration, game-port and query-port failure modes. Check them in order so you do not start changing firewall rules for a Legacy-versus-Evrima mismatch.
Five-minute triage
- Switch the client to Evrima. Steam → The Isle → Properties → Betas →
evrima. Everyone in the group must use the same branch. - Finish the update. Restart Steam and compare the server's update state with the client after patch day.
- Check the right ports. The game and query paths are normally UDP. RCON and queue ports, when enabled, are separate TCP services and are not substitutes for the game port.
- Check the firewall. Allow the assigned game and query ports inbound to the server process. On a managed host, use the ports displayed in the panel rather than DIY defaults.
- Try direct connect. Add the server IP and game port in Steam's Game Servers/Favorites view. If direct connect works while the in-game list is empty, the server is live and discovery is the failing layer.
What the operator should read
| Symptom | Likely layer | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing appears for a fresh install | Client branch | Set the client to evrima. |
| It vanished after an update | Version drift or restart | Finish both updates and read the server log. |
| Browser absent, direct IP works | Discovery/filter delay | Check unofficial filters and wait for registration. |
| Direct connect times out | UDP path or server registration | Check assigned ports, firewall and EOS errors. |
| Server process exits | Startup/config | Read TheIsle/Saved/Logs/TheIsle.log and check EOS startup settings. |
Do not use a TCP port checker to “prove” a UDP game port is closed. Verify the process is listening, the host's network rules are correct, and another Evrima client can join. The existing server-browser guide covers the discovery-specific branch mismatch.
