The Isle System Requirements: To Play Evrima, and To Host a Server
Two different questions get asked in the same words. "What do I need to play The Isle" is about your PC and the table below answers it. "What does a The Isle server need" is about a machine that renders nothing and the answer is further down. Players who last played Legacy years ago are often surprised by the first table: Evrima is an Unreal Engine 5 game and the floor moved.
To play The Isle: the published requirements
These are the developers' figures from the Steam store page, checked on September 17, 2026. The store lists them for Windows; the game is 64-bit only.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Quad-core Intel or AMD, 3.0 GHz or faster | Quad-core Intel or AMD, 3.4 GHz or faster |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280X, or better | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 11 |
| Storage | 25 GB available | 25 GB available |
| OS | Windows 7 64-bit or later | Windows 10 64-bit or later |
The line under the table on the store page is the one that matters most: this game needs a dedicated graphics card; integrated graphics will not work. A laptop with only integrated graphics is not "low settings" territory, it is outside the requirements. The store page also still lists a much older Linux minimum (a 2.5 GHz quad-core, 4 GB RAM, a GTX 470 class card); treat it as a leftover from Legacy rather than a description of what Evrima needs.
Reading the requirements against a real PC
- Minimum means playable, not smooth. A GTX 960 class card and 8 GB of RAM is the developers' floor for the game starting and running. Players on entry-level modern laptops, an RTX 3050 with 6 GB and 16 GB of RAM for example, report 20 to 30 fps at low settings in busy areas. That is consistent with the recommended row, not a broken install.
- Memory is the quiet limit. Evrima with a browser and Discord open sits close to 8 GB. If the game stutters in bursts rather than running slowly all the time, memory is the first suspect.
- The GTX 1070 recommendation is old. It dates from before the engine upgrade. For a steady 60 fps at medium settings on the current build, plan on a card comfortably above it, and on the CPU clock speed the table asks for; Evrima is sensitive to single-thread speed.
- Same rules for a server's clients. A community server does not lower anyone's requirements. If your group plays on laptops, growth rate and rules are negotiable, hardware is not.
Low fps: what to change first
- Verify the game files in Steam and make sure the client is on the branch the server runs; the branch check is in server not showing up.
- Lower resolution scale before anything else. On a GPU-bound machine it is worth more than every other slider together.
- Then shadows and foliage density, which are the two settings that scale with how much of the island is in view.
- Close the browser tab with the live map. It is often the real reason "the game got slower after I joined a new server".
- Rubber banding with good fps is not your PC. It is the server or the route to it; see server performance, slots and AI for what an overloaded server looks like from the inside.
To host a The Isle server: a different question
A dedicated server renders nothing, so the graphics row is irrelevant to it. What it needs is single-thread CPU speed, memory that grows with player slots and AI, and disk for the install plus saves and backups. Practical starting points from the Supercraft hosting profile, with the reasoning behind each, are in server performance, slots and AI.
| Use case | Slots | Starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Private group | Up to about 25 | 8 GB RAM, fast 2 to 4 cores |
| Public community | About 50 | 12 GB RAM, fast 4 cores |
| Established community with AI | 100 and up | 16 GB or more, fast 4 to 6 cores, measure before scaling |
The current requirements are on the official The Isle store page; the developers update them there when the engine changes, not in patch notes. Setup for the server itself starts at dedicated server setup.
Host The Isle Evrima with Supercraft and skip the server hardware question entirely: pick the slots, and the machine is sized to match.
